  1. I always believed everyone swung their driver 90-95 percent. I certainly do. I consider 100% where I’m almost coming out of balance. Very interesting case study.

  2. For me, if I swing 100% my backswing gets way too long and I end up with a path that's 10-15 degrees left. If I force myself to feel like I'm swinging "half a swing" I end up in much better positions, and I still get usually 88-90 mph clubhead speed with my 7 iron.

  3. To me, 80% swing is a figure of speech. It means be more in control of my swing motion, not guide the ball, so shorter back swing not move slower.

  4. i go 100% all the time and all the time trying hard as i can to go faster and go to gym to go faster! I have gone from 72mph withe the 7 iron to a 83 mph

  5. The only thing anyone should ever do at 100% is their amount of effort. Nothing in this world is made or meant to run at maximum capacity. Meaning, 100%

  6. I’ve recently slowed down my driver swing. Don’t know the percentage but a lot more accurate. Better 200 yards on fairway than 230 into trees!

  7. Great video subject Gaz and Dan. This is something I'm dealing with right now, as I have bad back and can't swing even at 80%, and my biggest issue is timing. And a severe loss off distance and accuracy also. What I have learned from this so far is, swing as fast as is comfortable and forget about % numbers.
Don't fight the natural swing, use it.

  8. A similar test I would be curious to see would be an iron gap testing with a set of strong lofted irons vs “standard” lofted irons at fast and medium swing speeds

  9. I think when they say swing 80%. It's more of a feel vs real. Especially for people that try swing out of their shoes. To get them to swing more in tempo and control

  10. For driver, its 95% as my standard. Anything less and things go wrong. For irons though I do swing at a comfortable 85% to keep control of the clubhead squaring.

Edit: HAHAHAHA for Dan to almost nail 95%, just goes to show we all naturally know where we can comfortably top out and still have reliable control and predictability.

  11. Seems that slowing down is another swing to practice and have in the bag. If you have a tight fairway and slowing down gives you a little more yards than a 3 wood, it might be worth the practice

  12. Great idea of a video, I have to say max speed looks the best by far!! Distance is key to all scoring and its no difference than people using a 3 wood off the tee, it doesnt work out any better on average.

  13. Get a better angle of attack at slower speed would make up the loss of distance???🤷🏼‍♂️

  14. I would suggest for testing, 10 drives and throw out the best and worst. Average results should be more reflective of typical performance.
Also, is swinging 100% really as "hard as you can" or should 100% be "typical" speed? I think it's the latter, since most golfers rarely swing as hard as they can. And 80% strikes me as a slow swing, rather than a controlled swing. My controlled/fairway finder is probably closer to 90% of my average.

  15. Dans shaft is optimised for his swing speed, and reducing his speed, means he would maybe then benefit from a more flexible shaft, due to the slower swing speed. He knows his own game and that shows with the results.
