I was looking at a similar situation only it was 5 wood vs Uw vs traditional hybrid. From my testing, the UW in a 19 degree crept up a little too much with my 3w so I am thinking of going with a 21 degree. Big factor for me was launch. Need a club that gets up high and spins so I can hold greens. The UW and 5 wood definitely fit that but I felt I got a better results from the rough with the UW.
Do you use a utility club? If so, what one??
I agree with your last point wholeheartedly. I’m a retired college golfer and now when I’m playing just for fun on the weekends, I’ll just smash driver everywhere and hardly would have the use for a driving iron off the tee. In more competitive rounds, I’d gravitate towards the utility iron though
I play the last version of the uw in a 17 degree. I play a strong 3 wood, and the uw removed a driving iron from my bag permanently.
Rotate 7 wood, 4 hybrid and fli-hi 4 iron between 5 iron and 4 wood Andrew. Space for 2 of them. For links or high winds then the 7 wood comes out. Typically winter golf the 4 fli-hi comes out and tight courses in summer the hybrid makes way. That UW is a very interesting club…
I play G425 5 hybrid and a G430 7 & 9 wood. Used to have a 4 hybrid but that 9 wood is so easy to just hit high and straight. My hcp floats between 6-8.
