Building The Greatest Sports Team In History: All Blacks’ Steve Hansen

Sir Steve Hansen famously led the All Blacks to victory during the 2015 Rugby World Cup as their head coach, a role he held from 2012 to 2019. This is a reflective, honest and vulnerable conversation with one of the world’s best coaches. Steve offers insights into his time with the All Blacks, sharing his experiences coaching the greatest rugby team in history, and the task of redefining the concept of progress while sitting at the top of the world rankings.

Jake, Damian and Steve delve into the strategic mindset he brings to coaching, sharing five thought-provoking questions he constantly asks himself and his team. They discuss his competitive and pride-driver alter-ego, Stanley, and how he has learnt to control this side of himself, offering valuable insights into the complexities of leadership. By prioritising simplicity, trust, and self-awareness, Steve explores how we can create a blueprint for high performance in any endeavour.;;

This episode was recorded at the Rugby Premiership Final at Twickenham, there may be some crowd noise in the background.

  1. AB vs Namibia…… Just when we throught were done with tricky Ricky M and his legendary proffesional fouls in the 22 (not to talk about his unhealthy affection for chatting up refs) … here we go again with the all blacks criminality …. early shoves on the scrum and the buffer players protecting the jumper in the lineout to avoid the opposition getting to the ball on the mall… luckily the referees it seems after 25 years of rugby is finally picking up on the all blacks playbook for criminality in rugby 101 … authored by hansen and co- authored by fitzie… with some input no doubt by fostie …. in my opinion they should allow 2 yellow cards in the 22 for proffesional fouls and the next one is a red for the captain and a penalty try … its the only way we'll get rid of these underhanded and unethical tricks by the all blacks !

  2. Great interview, perfectly presented with a Great man, Coach and mentor! Highly regarded and respected by South African rugby fraternity and Publick-Pity he and his All Blacks was responsible for many a nervous breakdown, overindulgence of KWV Brandy and biltong in SA! True story, Captured Cuban brigadier to SA general in Angolan war. "You fought many battles in SA including beating the english three times, against Germany twice, Korea and now beating Cuba and the Warsaw pact, who do you respectfully fear?" SA General, "New Zeeland" Cuban. "New Zeeland Why" SA General. "They have the All-Black rugby players AND Coaching team"!

  3. A journey into the mind of one of the World's best High Performance coach. Brilliant! For such a quality and in-depth content, as we say in Fiji 🇫🇯 Vinaka Vakalevu. 👏

  4. Never in million years the greatest team. Looks at the bulls in the 90s or Man United in the 90s and early 00 or Liverpool in the 70s an 80s or NY Yankees etc. The ABs are a good team but they are not back to back champions.

  6. Rugby is pure art. I was 2line representation of Serbia. Got injured my spine in the game with England. So honored and fighter for life. All blacks forever.🖤

  7. He’s always come across as a tough no nonsense coach that doesn’t accept anything less than winning and winning in style but it’s so good to see the human side of one of the greatest coaches sport has ever produced

  8. Watching this amazing man takes me back to my childhood. My brother Des shines through his son and l know he and his mother would burst with pride at the place he holds as a human being. Steve was a darling little boy and as already stated became an amazing man.

  9. Love that he's giving this masterclass underneath a Scotland shirt, great product placement Steve, I like to think he's chosen to put this there as we're his 2nd team!
