Always Keep Your Weight Forward in the Golf Swing – The #1 Key to Playing Great Golf!

This is the #1 golf swing key that gets you playing great golf. Keep your weight forward in the golf swing and don’t shift it back. When you do this, ball striking is consistent and powerful. Many golfers are told to shift their weight in the golf swing, but this causes inconsistent contact with the golf ball. Professional golfers keep their weight forward because it allows them to control their contact point every time, When you master this skill you will play great golf. That’s why keeping your weight forward is one of the best golf tips for any golfer – it’s the #1 fundamental to playing great golf.

  1. You are a good teacher. You make good points and explain things very well. I'm excited to golf again!

  2. Are your hips moving automatically at the start of your downswing? I'm struggling to understand the transition from the start of the downswing to how your hips move towards the target (if that makes sense)?

  3. Golf is simple, every swing should and is like Tom says…… or for those who don’t believe, hit all your irons like a “CHIP SHOT”, want more distance? Turn your hip, punch that shot with proper shoulder turn.

  4. Tom, I was "bound up" after a dinner of Thai food, but this lesson is one of your best, and I feel freed up.. Stay Kriapy.

  5. Shift weight by swaying? No. Shift weight by pivoting? Absolutely. Swaying and weight shift are two different things. Keeping weight on the lead side requires manipulation or leaning during the pivot. Almost no good players do this. There is variation in the percent of weight that shifts. There is also variation in how soon in the swing the weight comes back to lead side. But it always goes to trail side then back to the lead side. The arms and the club have significant dynamic weight, so weight shift is almost impossible to avoid.

  6. is it not possible to shift some weight without shifting position?
watching Ben Hogan's style, and tending to raise my left heal, requires some weight shift but not waist shift… ⛳🏌️

  7. Tom, I can't say I've mastered this yet but I can reliably use it 80-90% of the time (the rest, old habits creep in) and have for the past two months or so. Our golf season is about over but in my outing with my regular buddy our last two rounds, he repeatedly asked if I was a doppelganger (twin) who looked like me but played — very different golf! 1st hole was a par 5 and without warmup I sent a very solid drive down the center. My approach shot usually ends up ~ 115-125 yds short of the green but this time (3 wood) I had very solid contact and both our jaws dropped to see it bounce on the green!! (Far from the pin and I 3 putted but was still ecstatic). Most of the day went that way! I shared with him my "secret" (your site) so now we'll see if he can catch up. Do you do any vids on chipping/pitching?

  8. I know this .. Your not scared to challenge the golf gods and pros because nobody has ever said this even my old coons that helped me they shift take it back straight throw

  9. Call me crazy, but I've been watching a lot of pro golfers looking at this since I started watching your videos, and I think contrary to what people are taught or want to believe. A LOT do not shift their weight. Watch them. They do not move off that front foot and stay very centered. Big hair, multi camera Saguto here, is right.

  10. It does feel powerful to load on that back side… powerful enough to dig your club in the ground behind the ball and hurt your back, wrist, etc.!

  11. Here is the problem with this swing. One round I can be sticking GIR's and Par 3's and shoot 80 / 81 and the next round I cannot hit a long iron with forward weight and hitting ground balls and shots shooting to the right. it's troublesome

  12. Fairly new golfer here. No one out there explains the golf swing more easily than Tom. I've been building and adjusting my swing one detail at a time with your videos. Broke 100 this year and just shot a 91 last weekend. Hoping to break 90 before the end of the year. Thank you Tom, greetings from Arizona!

  13. Time won't give me time

    And time makes lovers feel

    Like they've got something real

    But you and me

    We know we've got

    Nothin' but time

And time won't give me time

    Won't give me time

    (Time, time, time)

  14. You always wake me up when I start to go wrong, its usually late in the game and I start to sway and my game goes off line. Tiredness is creeping up on me and I must remind myself to keep control, Thanks Tom from Jerry (in NZ spring is here.).

  15. I went to the range today. Don’t know what happened. I lost the rotate and tilt. Played like shite. I was peeved to say the least. My hips didn’t rotate. I groaned loudly much to the amusement of others there. Argh. Back tomorrow to do what you say here. Let’s hope for a better outcome. Frustrating yet a most addictive game.

  16. How do you get more height particularly with longer irons of fairways, I get good contact but it goes low
    Great video
    Thanks dan
