The USGA is a nonprofit organization that celebrates, serves and advances the game of golf. Founded in 1894, we conduct many of golf’s premier professional and amateur championships, including the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open. With The R&A, we govern the sport via a global set of playing, equipment, handicapping and amateur status rules. The USGA campus in Liberty Corner, New Jersey, is home to the Association’s Research and Test Center, where science and innovation are fueling a healthy and sustainable game for the future. The campus is also home to the USGA Golf Museum, where we honor the game by curating the world’s most comprehensive archive of golf artifacts. To learn more, visit https://www.usga.org.

  1. Golf rules are so stupid. Why do you get penalized for not being able to hit a fucking egg sized ball in a straight line 3 football fields away

  2. Love the videos. Would request doing the same rule but you slice in to the bush, do you get to go back along the line?

  3. What about that guy that misses a putt, then after everyone makes the putt and are walking off the green, he goes back and putts it again. I always give him a 1 stroke addition. Am I right or wrong?

  4. I think there’s a putting exploitation of this rule if your within one clubs length of the hole you can hit the ball into a penalty area and choose the first relief option to just have your drop point be the hole and that would be a guaranteed way to sink the hole with a one stroke penalty, the same as just hitting the ball normally but without risk.

  5. PSA: Dropping your ball (wherever you do so) COUNTS AS A STROKE. So, hitting into the water is a stroke. Dropping is a subsequent stroke. Hitting the ball for the second time is another stroke.

So, if this guy is laying one, hits into the water 2, drops 3, rehits 4, two- putts 5,6, DOUBLE BOGEY.

  6. "Let's change a two syllable word to a six syllable phrase."

    USGA: Genius!

Admit your mistake and change it back to hazard!

  7. With a red/lateral hazard, you can also take relief on the opposite side of the hazard. For example, you hit into the hazard, but your point of relief two club lengths away from the point of crossing the hazard puts you behind a tree. If it's possible, you can move to the opposite side of the hazard and drop there. Rory McIlroy used this option once because that point gave him a much better angle to the green.

  8. So it’s in (Water) one, out in 2, hitting 3 from the drop right…!?? And is this the same stroke ruling for OB…!??

  9. I love how they make these videos for the casual golfer, like we actually follow usga rules. Put me on a usga course with a caddy and fans that always find the ball, and then maybe…..maybe I'll start playing by your rules. I'm not hitting out of "sand" that is like cement. I'm not wasting half and hour looking for a ball in unkempt rough and be expected to take a penalty even though I clearly saw it land.
