Matt Adams reacts to USGA and R&A’s Model Local Rule

  1. The WGC event saw many 370, 380, 400yd drives….160yd wedges….its a joke already. Why is golf the only pro ball sport without a standard ball? These commentators who have a conflict of interest with OEM ball makers should be quiet.

  2. The balata ball was used by many golf legends….playing great golf..and it was 50 yds shorter than modern tour balls. Modern tour balls are designed for tour players.

  3. Max tee height….Rory has a 15 deg launch angle . Cut that down it ain't going as far . There I just saved golf for almost zero cost .

  4. Instead looking at equipment why not look at course set up. Maybe they stop cutting fairway so tight to lessen rollout. You can do something about how firm they play also. Long hitters would still have some advantage but you wont see 420 yard drives like this weekend. Longer fairways also will reward those with better ball striking ability. This will not effect the average golfer due to most courses played by the public are not as tight and firm.

  5. Good idea. The long ball hitters have obsoleted most of the golf courses in the country. Most of the time are hitting a wedge into the green and sometimes even driving the green on the short par hours. If you took away the par fives, Tiger Woods would not have won many of the tournaments that he did win. The combination of the driver and ball should not exceed 300 yards. They should test clubs and balls using an automated driving system to determine which clubs and balls are approved for use in a professional golf turnament.

  6. Stop spreading misinformation for the slow swinger you take their loss away from the 317 yards 127mph baseline not their current average!!

It is around 5% for everyone

    Cam champ swings at 125mph so he’ll lose 127-125 = 2

    2X2.3= 4.6 yards

    317-4.6= 312.4 yards

    Joel dahmen 127-112 = 15

    15 X 2.3 = 34.5

    317- 34.5 = 282.5 yards

  7. Great Idea! Playing with a dead ball in an era of 2 leagues promising to GROW THE GAME. What El Toro Poo Poo psychobabble BS are they going to throw at the wall next to see if that sticks?

  8. Maybe demand a strict diet of donuts so players get fat & slow. Let's see what else their brilliant minds come up witth. 😂

  9. Imagine these guys in charge of the NFL, MLB, NBA or Hockey. They would be run out of town.

  10. I am no fan of the roll back. But I truly have no idea where you are getting your calculations. The idea that cam champ might only lose 5 yards and brendon Todd might lose 40 is truly complete nonsense. I’m trying to understand in my head where you’re coming from but I honestly have no idea how you are landing at this calculation

  11. the pga plays tons of parkland courses where holes are side by side… put down white lines …that will make them think .

  12. Someof those shots are running 75 to 100 yards because of down hill firm fairways. I guess they could make the long hitters swing with one hand.

  13. Matt I’m sorry but as people keep pointing out what you say makes no sense.

Look at the usga distance report. Since the 90s handicap players 12 and under have only gained 5 measly yards on average.

Meanwhile the tour average has gone up 30 yards. And the longest hitters on tour have gone up another 30 yards to averaging over 330.

That’s on top of the crazy gains tour players hit after losing the ballast balls. At that point the tour average was in the 250s. And there is no evidence the longest players were 30 yards plus ahead because they had to think about consequence a lot more.

Please don’t tell me cam young is more fit than Jack Nicklaus. Cam is amazing but he is a poor man’s Nicklaus at best.

The point is if the ball —and driver—was rolled back to the late 90s players like myself would probably notice no difference on distance.

I also do not believe regular players would notice much dispersion difference.

But I do believe the longest hitters would notice the biggest difference in dispersion and distance. They would have to think a lot more like the rest of us, including the guys on tour whom cannot cut corners all the way to the green on par 5s (ie bryson at bay hill).

Imo the rollback should affect everybody the same. Because in reality it will affect the bombers the most and the hard working 1-12 handicaps the least.

I don’t think anyone knows what the new balls would be whether they are for everyone or just the pros. BUT what It should be is a reprieve for shorter tactician players and players whom can work the ball more. It should be something that brings out the best golfers instead of the longest hitters —most of the time. I get on the right course and day but this is about averages.

And on average it’s about time the bombers come back to the pack. That’s what the end result should be.

  14. Really, if you deadened the ball for the high in pro’s it affects each player that hits that ball.

The ding sings at the USGA and RA think humans will be 8 foot tall and hitting 450 yard drives, wtf ever…

There is limits to what the human body can be.

The Usag : Ra. Are not relevant….

    They just want to be😂

  15. I agree, quit mowing fairways tight, softer also not baked out, make bunkers a real hazard, wide groove rakes to stop spin, have green less receptive.

40 years from now, your just now worried about it,

How about loss of interest in the game and the economic issue this will create,

Golf has a hard time even attracting new players.

    Stop the nonsense usag,

    Nobody cares about u

  16. Limit drivers head size. Same power but less MOI making it harder to control accuracy. Risk vs reward when a pro pulls it out of the bag. If a guy can put it on the screws then great. If not, see ya.

  17. Course set up would fix hitting the ball longer. I have played a lot of courses where hitting the ball too far puts me in a lot of trouble and requires a ball positioning.

  18. Should Basketball raise the hoop to 11’ for professional players? Should baseball pitchers only be able to throw a ball 98 mph? Should a quarterback only be able to throw the ball 50 yards? Should the NASCAR’s be limited to 200 mph? Should soccer nets be made smaller for professionals? Should running tracks be set so runners cannot run 100m faster than 10 seconds?

  19. Players will get their clubs made to counter this. Drivers will be 2-6 degree, irons will be adjusted to lower degrees to go farther. Whereas a normal 8 iron is 38 degrees it will be tweaked to be 36 degrees. All irons will be adjusted to hit one or two clubs longer. Course set up for the pros is what needs to happen. Make courses that mandate a player to place a shot and can penalize if hit too far.

  20. When someone says "very transparent" you should know they're hiding something. The ball is adjusted and restricted now! If 1 yard a year is the problem, then remember fairways on Tour probably roll an easy 6 to 7 because they're mowed so right.

  21. It's only going to make the longer hitters shorter and the shorter hitters really short.

  22. You make a great point about who sill be punished sith the bew ball. I don't know how you stop it. Can the USGA dictate how balls are built? What will differentiate one ball from the other? Athletes run faster, jump higher, lift more weight and they are better. In 5 years, there will be players knocking it much further than 320 with the de-tubed ball. I say Nighfurcation to Bifurcation.
