So is it possible to keep Phillips on the 53 with no kicker? And then Phillips goes to the IR to open the kicker slot the next day? That is what I envision.
Less likely they pick a position that takes some acclimation. But few of these guys are going to be day one starters anyway. It is more about improving the bottom depth. There are some kicker battles where a few teams will cut a decent kicker. Riley Patterson for example from Detroit. Guys pretty well know. They know what to expect in 95% of the cases. The vast majority of the cuts aren't going to be a surprise to the player.
