GOLF LESSON: Chipping Drill

In this video I am going to give a quick and simple drill to help improve your short game. This drill helps me get my “feel” back with my wedges whenever I take some time off and feel like I’ve lost my touch.

Drill:
– Pick a pin that’s about 10-20 paces from the fringe
– Use 5 balls
– Start with your 7 iron
– Chip all 5 balls within 3-feet of the pin
– Once successfully completed, use your 8 iron and repeat
– Once successfully completed, use your 9 iron and repeat
– Keep working through the bag until you’re chipping with the wedge you’d normally use.

I hope this helps!!

  1. SUCH a useful lesson for golf students!
The bump-n-run is one of the only strengths of my game and it's a lifesaver.
Probably 70% of my pars are up-n-downs.

  2. I don’t know who is handling your video/ audio production, but they don’t have a clue about balancing audio. Sorry, I don’t want to have to fight to listen between wind noise and way to loud music.

  3. I loved it, but let me point out that it would have been much better if you weren't showed in high speed mode< normal mode would have been much more visually enlightening. I couls have a better chance in appreciating your tempo and contact with the ball.

  4. I play on a course with small "turtleback" greens that usually have a significant drop from "false front, sides, and back". Following anything less than an "A" shot the ball usually rolls down to the bottom and you have a very sketchy lie for your next shot. You are then left with a very difficult chip, pitch, or bump & run shot. For the most part, you can forget the flop because the lie won't support that shot, and even if it did anything mishit even a little would probably leave you with the same type of shop either over the green or back at your feet. The only thing missing is the "windmills". The best solution is to forget the pin and "hit the green", then rely on your putting.

  5. I tried this drill today and I really liked it. By the time I got to my wedge, I was getting it close consistently. Thanks for the drill.

  6. If you don’t already you could teach golf. If I have the patience for that kind of thing. Maybe at a university??
    Have a great day.
