Toronto Raptors the talk of the basketball world after publicly calling out NBA referees

The Toronto Raptors made headlines around the NBA last week after point guard Fred VanVleet’s expletive-filled rant went viral calling out NBA official Ben Taylor.

“I’ll take a fine, I don’t care. I thought Ben Taylor was f—-g terrible tonight. I thought that on most nights, out of the three, there’s one or two that just f–k the game up, you know,” VanVleet said. “It’s been like that a couple of games in a row. Denver was tough obviously. We come out tonight competing pretty hard and then in the third quarter I get a bulls–t tech. Changes the whole dynamic of the game, changed the whole flow of the game.”

VanVleet’s verbal tirade came one game after another NBA official, Scott Foster, came under fire after he emphatically threw out the Raptors’ Scottie Barnes with a technical foul with less than 30 seconds to play in that game.

The NBA handed down a $30,000 fine to VanVleet for his comments – but in wider league and media circles, his comments and Barnes’ ejection have been the talk of the sports world. Many players have expressed support for VanVleet’s comments, and fanbases of other NBA teams are praising the Raptors for calling out instances of inconsistent officiating in the league.

  1. I fully agree with Van Vleet, the Refs were always bad to Raptors since the beginning. The NBA officials know about this and I think they're involved directly to this dirty game.

  2. Scott foster is the guy fans gathered a petition to have him removed as an nba ref. Nothing happened.

  3. It’s about time someone spoke up, too often for too long the raptors have been getting shafted by some of these refs, too many times when whack calls meant the difference between a win or a loss as well as when the team takes the momentum and starts owning the game. It’s blasphemous that the team has to deal with that stuff-so darn regularly at that….who knows, maybe Freddy’s open dialogue is what the team needs to unite on the same frequency and start contending consistently

  4. Proud to be Canadian and I stand behind my guy ! U.S. refs have a problem with the Raptors succeeding and frequently affect the game against them. A lot of nights the Raptors are battling two opponents on the floor . The refs should ref the game and stay invisible and not be the focus of the game. The best refs are the ones that go unnoticed while reffing the game.

  5. FVV will always be a legend in Toronto, pathetic how some "fans" have talked about him and his play, forgetting his game 6 finals performance, guy was a legend ever since then.

  6. HELLO Global News, I'm a GREAT, BIG, SUPER, HUGE, MEN LOVING Gay Man. Please tell Anthony Farnell, Ross Hull, Antony Robart, Alan Carter, Eric Sorensen, David Akin & Mike Armstrong that They are GREAT BIG HUNKS. Emergency. Ciao………….
