I agree with Nick about Matthews. Take 12.7 a year for 5, he will make more in endorsements in Toronto than in USA total
, win a cup he will make more in endorsements than he could dream of playing in Arizona or New York or LA. Now with Doan, him moving from Arizona to be with Leafs tells me he sees the writing on the wall with Yotes, that team is in trouble and now the face of that franchise is gone

I'm sure I'll take the heat for this, but I would rather see Matthews traded and the money spent on players that are committed to Toronto and not just their bank accounts.

If Matthews wants to sign short term, sign him until McDavid’s contract expires. I know Connor would love to go to war for his favourite team, and would absolutely sign here.
Matthews and Laine and PLD are good players – but they haven’t been elite NHL playoff performers. It does make sense that Matthews moves to Pittsburgh where Matthews & Dubas’s agents can get them both high contracts. Matthews can just finish his Leafs contract obligations and leave.
No point in extending his contract with the Leafs. In the playoffs the Leafs organization let Matthews down. Time to leave. For his playoff issues – Matthews has failed in the playoffs so why should Leafs extend him with excessive salary? Leafs win cups but not in Toronto. Maybe Auston can be a Champion in Pittsburgh?
