The best Sprint Spike: Nike Maxfly vs Adidas Prime SP2

After now doing a couple races as well as training in both of these spikes for a couple months I’ve made my decision on which spikes are superior !

Both are good spikes but there is one clear winner when you hear my arguments !

If Puma or New Balance want to get in on the action they can send me a pair of shoes if they like ? 😉

Keen to hear your thoughts if you agree or disagree.

  1. i personally like the sp2’s a bit better. maxflys are way too narrow and feel like bricks on my feet. i have to take them off immediately after running. i’ve found the sp2’s to be much more versatile based on foot widths. i’m also a very powerful runner which is probably why i haven’t had any problems with the sp2. guess every product is made to fit different people. W vid btw

  2. For me personally I don’t think you can beat the OG adidas prime sp’s or nike superfly elites. I find with the bubble in the nike’s & foam in the sp’s I really struggle to accelerate properly when coming out of the blocks & through my drive phase. I’m someone that likes to feel & receive feedback from the track and I have a hard time feeling this in the new style spikes. I mainly use both the sp 2’s or maxflys for my fly work at training.

  3. Great videos on these spikes Jack. I am now well past my prime and sprinting masters for fun (but it's still had not to take it too seriously). My main attraction to these super spikes is longevity of my body (if only they were around 20 years ago, how nicer the track would have been on our bodies?) but also will not complain of immediate performance improvements. However it seems impossible to easily get hold of SP2's in Aus and even hard enough to find the Nike's in stock in certain sizes (I've seen blown bubbles too recently so I'm not keen on getting Nike's for that reason). I was always an Adidas runner (demolishers, powersprint 2, all those old things back then) so have a bit of loyalty there. I have managed to order a pair of Adizero Ambitions, they seem similar in some ways to the SP2's. Very interested to see how the MD spike goes over shorter distances (hopefully a bit more forgiving than the talk of the SP2 being so aggressive). Especially considering sprint spikes seem to have taken a lot of tech from MD spikes. Thoughts?

  4. I have the superflite elite 2 do u think i would run faster if i ran in the maxflys just a simple yes or no will do thanks

  5. What if you ran a 400m? I'm predominantly a 400m runner (occasional 100&200). Heard the maxflies are weird in corners. They are also quite heavy compared to other spikes right? Would your answer be different if you ran a 400.
Cheers for another excellent video 💪

  6. Personally I believe since these spikes are mainly meant for 400/200 runners. This is shown my the plate and how it has the ability to snap the plat laterally as well. You see the Sp2 more often in those races compared the 100 that is dominated by Max Fly spikes. They are both good but personally it comes down to your foot shape and event. They both perform very well. However, you will only get the most out of these spikes if you have good sprinting technique!!!

  7. Hey Darce, I've only been able to find the Maxfly in the poofy looking lime green and even more poofy looking hot pink. Does it come in any other colours?

  8. I find the Adidas way more comfortable than the Maxflys. Could you tell me how much your Adidas weigh? The claimed weight is 4.2 0z (119 g), however my SP2s in mint green (ID1736) weigh considerably more, around 5.5 oz. (155 g). If the claimed weight on the black SP2s (HR0225) is accurate, I'm thinking these are two different shoes, although marketed as the same (except for color). The Maxflys in my size are 0.4 oz lighter than these mint green Adidas .

  9. yo I saw a video of you with the sps and j want to get them . I wear in maxfly 44.5 (eur) what size should I get for the addidas sp2

  10. Now the real question for the 200 is the nike superfly elite 2 or the prime sp2s?

  11. The MaxFlys are rigidly uncomfortable compared to the Adidas. The Adidas feel like slippers in comparison, no socks necessary.

  12. If you pop the maxflys it's not because of your technique. Im a professional sprinter U18 I have 10.97 on the 100 hundred and I have a very good solid technique and I popped em. It's because of the force put into the ground, when it's too much for the air unit to handle it just pops.
