  1. Besides the first day, the other 3 days played plenty hard. Take away the low scores from the first day, the other 3 days played like a normal US Open, as they let the course dry out and quit watering the course LOL. They should have quit watering the course on Sunday before, when the players were arriving, but they kept watering the greens until Wednesday night, scared that the course would get away from them like it did at Chambers Bay, something they said they learned from, but this time LACC also had cooler overcast humid weather and didn't dry out enough by Thursday.
Course itself was fine, may be the fairways could have been narrowed, but that's what you get for believing in Gil Hanse.
The course routing does not bode well for walking crowd to get close viewing. So many fairways run next to each other, like on 1tee & 18green, 1green & 18 tee, 2 & 17, corner of 15 & 16, etc – and the sidehills around the greens and tees such as 9green & 10 tee which is stuck to the back of the 18 green – keeps the fans wide and not running down the sides, is what also made it seem quiet and lack of a walking crowd. It was impossible to be able to follow one group from start to end, even if you knew where the walkway crossings were in the fairways, so many of those side-by-side fairways had nowhere to cross that ended up at dead-ends that you got swung around far that by the time you found a place to cross, that group you wanted to see was already 2 holes up ahead and around the other end of the property.

  2. If lofts are jacked too much for a fitted client. Less irons will be sold in the set

  3. Too many times during a show. You don't first explain what you are talking about.
What complaints were given about Azinger?
And you complained about ticket sales for 90 seconds before revealing what the issue was.

  4. Me playing a jacked iron will give me the same dynamic loft as your old standard loft with proper shaft lean.
I try to get forward shaft lean. It just doesn't happen

  5. Worst? The Shinnecock Hills debacle. I think we all want the US OPEN to be hard. But making it ridiculous looks bad on the USGA and takes attention off the event and the golfers.

The 2023 'Open' was compelling for me, full of tension and a champion rising to the top. I was cheering for Ricky, but he just couldn't hang on. Rory was right there, but Wyndham was a rock to the end making key shots and lagging long putts close time after time. Big congrats to Wyndham.

The venue? LACC isn't a stadium setting for sure. Not big enough. But, I had family there watching. They loved it. That said, I agree that The US OPEN should not be a corporate event. IT'S THE UNITED STATES OPEN. And it's OPEN – not a private tournament, it's for the PUBLIC. I think the LACC has a beautiful CC. It looked awesome. I would love to play there myself. Very cool course. I don't think the USGA should return though. More golf fans are needed on site than the property allows.

  6. Thanks for answering my t series question fellas – even though you were about 55 minutes shorter than I'd hoped with it

  7. Most of the low scores happened on Thursday. Soft condition and no wind. Rest of the days, leaders were general even or 2 to 3 under. Crowds were light tho

  8. Conspiracy theory…. USGA didn’t make the course too tough on purpose in order ti highlight that pros are hitting it too far and making it “impossible” to make a tough US Open so we need restricted golf balls…. Commentators were all over guys hitting huge bombs…. 370+

  9. One thing you might not know is restraint of trade (the lawsuit LIV filed against PGA) is very scary. The judgement can go, not only against the organization (PGA), but it also applies to the person/people who instigated the restraint, and carries civil and criminal charges. Monahan is exposed to financial and person liabilities. LIV and PIF have him between a rock and restricted country club living……

  10. I enjoyed the US Open and I thought the course was fair for the most part. I didn't like the mile wide fairways and the par 4's stretched to par 5 length but still a par 4. Keep them normal length and choke the fairway in where you want approach shots coming from. Secondly, the US Open is an elitist tournament to begin with. Most of the USGA championships are that. In the last 30 years how many are Open to the public to go play? I can think of 2 maybe 3 off the top of my head. More often than not the tournaments are played at private clubs anyway. Stop acting like anyone can go jump on a US Open track, it's not happening. I think more often than not the course should be open to the public. It should be a prerequisite in order to host it. We get to see these tracks on TV or in-person during the tournament but that's the extent of it. I live not far from Merion but can't play it. I know a fellow whose brother caddies there and said it was near impossible. He lives in the UK, but only recently played it. The hypocrisy of growing the game at private clubs is on full display.

  11. I can’t quite put my finger on it but for me it was the worst US open to watch. It kinda felt like a lot of the players didn’t want to be there. It just had a crappy vibe!

  12. Would LACC have been tougher [better] if the marine layer hadn't been such a factor? If the sun had been out all 4 days? Loved Faldo. Azinger is a beating. I have to be honest, I am unfamiliar with all the names you threw out as replacements. Are y'all going younger? I've heard of Shane Bacon but am unfamiliar with his bonafides. How about Fred Couples or is he not outgoing enough, seeing as how quite a bit of talking is required.

  13. Tony just can't help the trashing LIV comments…
Wake up LIV/PIF just ripped the PGA a new arsehole and handed it to them on a plate….and now the PGA look like the most hypocritical organisation on the planet …I'm pro golf not pro LIV or PGA ..I enjoy both….what would be hilarious would be if Norman got Monahan's job😂😂

  14. Cancel it?? It’s the second best major in Golf! LACC sucks though for a US Open. What an elitist cesspool of Delta Bravo’s.

  15. I enjoyed watching the open, the pros played a course that was challenging. Also the US open should be played on courses that the public can play, regardless of the cost of greens fees. I would love to see the Open at a Bandon course.
Regarding super game improving irons, they certainly help improve scores and enjoyment. Last year I purchased Cleveland XL Halo Launchers and that was an eye opener. Mizuno and Ping have always been my go to brands for irons. I demo and purchased 923 Hot METAL HL because of looks, feel, sound, and performance. My woods are Ping G430 (1,5,7,9) and Ping G430 hybrids (7,6,5). I observed that I was striking my “long irons” all the same distance. Hybrids improved this situation.
    Keep up the good work.

  16. Shouts to Berry Henson making his first Major in 21 years of being a touring pro who has become one of the best players on the Asian Tour FINALLY getting his shot on home soil. #HensonatorNation forever!

  17. Shinnecock, Winged Foot, Pinehurst, etc. should be PGA Championship courses. 100% agree with Nickel that it should be an everyman's BRUTALLY laid out public golf course for a US Open. Keep Bethpage and Pebble but there are SO MANY ridiculous layouts in public golf that don't get the light. Classic Club in Palm Desert pissed off tour players for being wind exposed, Yocha-De-He in Northern CA is the prettiest 7400 course I've ever played for $89, Even give the guys a gimmicky 6800 course like you see all over the country with tree-lined chokepoints restricting bombers and treachery for missing F/Gs.

  18. So….I have heard something that makes a lot of sense. It is not the back and forth law suits that caused the merger but the information that would have come to light if those law suits progressed, namely Monahan and his predecessor were pilfering LOTS of money and that information would have come to light in a law suit. PGA we know has ponied up lots of money to its players and tournaments since the LIV…have they taken in more money…I think not. I think once the reality that your shady practices may see the light of day, forced the PGA to flip the switch.

  19. Considering the first round leaders were at 8 under the last 3 rounds weren’t that low.

I agree that the US Open should be at more public courses as long as they meet the standards of what an open course should be.

As I don’t care for a lot of the golf telecasts announcers, Azinger is by far the worst. He was when he was on the other networks too. If I axed him, I would hire Frank Nobilo away from CBS. He’s one of the few I really like.

  20. Was hoping to hear Tony finish what he was saying about his preference for heavier iron shafts when he got cut off. You said you would get to it in the After Show and it didn't happen. Can you comment on your preference for the heavier shafts? I find old school Dynamic Gold S300 have been superior to all the shafts I have been fit for in my three previous fittings. I actually want to swap out my Aerotech Steelfibers I was fit for back to good ole DG S300.

  21. The US Open was terrible. Clark was a great winner, but the course, crowds (or lack thereof), and broadcast in the States was awful. Endless Rory fawning, forced worship of the snootiest, most inaccessible course in the world, and appallingly bad commentary by Paul Azinger made it just about the worst disaster since 2015.

  22. To compensate those who did not go to LIV is like saying everyone should get reparations for not buying Nike, or Apple when they started.

  23. The course was great. 10 under, good result. Out ragus was the cost of the tickets for entry. Should be 20 bucks, for adults, children free. It's your national open. Should be packed with people. Get it right for next year.

  24. played golf the world over, and from the UK we have a few elitist golf courses but mostly not….. smacks of NO PEASANTS PLEASE last thing the US Golf and or PGA/Tour golf needed

  25. Plenty of problems, all the USGA's doing. The course was playable Sunday, but the pins were inaccessible. Scottie was the only one getting it close, but always above the hole. Super hard to make a birdie as the day progressed. Congrats to Clark. Now he can buy his own hotel chaiin.

  26. For idiots, hands ahead of the ball at impact delofts the club. Club lie too upright causes the heel of the club to drag at impact. Hitting your driver on the upswing allows for less loft on your driver. Better players can typically handle less loft. If you're an 18, 12° driver, need a "7" wood in the bag, drop the 3I and learn how to use a "chipper".

  27. The US OPEN WAS A JOKE. The one positive not many caddies stomping around the greens reading putts.
My pet pet peeve is most tourneys caddies stomp around greens reading putts. Isnt the players skill tested by his own reads.
I find that it means players get 2 reads and the individual skills are not tested

  28. I didn’t like the course but I thought it had an exciting finish.

  29. I've have a couple different travel bags from Stitch, and have been using SL2 golf bag the last two seasons. I'm not sure if it is due to having more sales, but their customer service is in need of some professional help. I had a warranty issue with the base of my SL2 where it hinges for the stand. It is clearly a warranty issue, and the bag is 3 months old, it should be replaced. I emailed Stitch pictures of the bag and was told they would get back to me within 24hrs. This did not happen. About 4 days later I called, it went straight to voicemail telling me to leave a message and it would be returned in 24hrs. This did not happen. When I did get a call back, a couple of days later, it was an AI call telling me to send in pictures to their customer service agents. Did that again and still have not heard back. Everyone has different experiences and opinions on fit and feel, but for a DTC company custie service is all you have. I'm done with Stitch.

  30. I've been to Pine Valley, NJ. They open it to the public for one day a year. The final round of the Crump Cup. Everyone was welcome. Same at Bethpage Black and Merion. The USGA should be embarrassed.

  31. On Azinger. I've been interested in statistical analysis of sports – Bill James – before you guys were probably born. I'm horrified by its effects. The problem is that analytics can ruin a game. The best games are finely balanced, allowing for multiple ways to win. If there’s only one way, it's ultimately boring. Which is the problem with technology overwhelming the classic courses. They also take place over time, not in vogue in the age of short attention spans. Golf relies on its connection to history. And in relies on rivalries and stars. You recognized that in mentioning you liked the leader board. You missed it by trashing Johnny Miller, who educated the average golfer in what will likely be seen as one of the golden ages of golf. Falco was fine. But the reason NBC and CBS were so good was that they were families. There were internal connections between the announcers and golf history. Buck, Tirico, et all weren't. The Open Championship worked because it was different, but it came alive with Peter Allis and the foreign accents. Paddy Harrington, Darren Clarke, Sergio Garcia, and yes Greg Norman. Trying to hype the game is a mistake. If the broadcast sounds like a detergent commercial, I'm not interested. I'll still watch the Major, but that's it. I don't care how white my shirts can be.

  32. public course for the US Open. Chambers got hosed USGA mismanaged the greens (drought and heat wave in PNW) Greens are new the course has done what the USGA have asked still not coming back. The PNW needs another Major to come up here

  33. The course was refreshingly different, but clearly only a test for the top pros if dry and fast. The topography, however, did not appear to make for good spectator viewing, the few that were there, that is. Course property owners and members buying up half of the general admission tickets to restrict public access to their 'hallowed ground' – that has to be some kind of joke!! Golf Majors should have that extra bit of trnsion and atmosphere which is created by large crowds of 'true fans', not these 'corporate cronies' on freebie/cheap event days.
