Shane, it's about the visceral need to brag. Most of the UF fans didn't graduate/attend UF, if they can't brag about it they don't care about it. Golf ain't a big enough collegiate sport hence the "no care" mentality except when they can brag (We the everything school) It's not they're passionate about "football" they're passionate about bragging. Why do you think football fans don't give 2 shits about Chuck Fusina… because winning in the USFL ain't bragging material. Why do you think so many "football" fans have a "who gives a shit attitude" about HS football but not HS recruiting? If football is so popular why the excitement about the NBA compared to HS football/Canadian football league/non-NFL? Hell people watch people running in the combines yet don't watch non-NFL/non-college football games.
The guy in the Ohio State shirt will know UGA won the NC in college and the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. UGA fans or Chiefs fans smile because they know the Ohio State fan knows it and is angry and they don't have to say a word.
No rival fan is angry or even know UF won 3/4 T&F NCs last year or golf NC this year, that's why the indifference.
Why do you think so many want FSU/Clemson/Miami to join the SEC… so they can add their NCs and they can brag about how many more the NCs the SEC has compared to the boring B1G. Along with the visceral need to brag is the the visceral need to put down. That's why you constantly see people shitting all over the boring B1G (if it's boring then don't watch… why care about what "not you" do… because visceral need to put down) Sports wouldn't be so popular if people couldn't brag. If I cared about Justin Bieber as much as people care about HS recruits, you'd say "Loser stop commenting on my podcast". Hell you might be saying it now.
