After the news that Jack Leach has been ruled out of the Ashes, the panel of Phil Walker, Ben Gardner and Yas Rana try to work out how England could go about replacing one of the few ever-presents in the Ben Stokes era so close to the start of the series.

Mark Butcher dials in to offer his two cents on the Leach replacement question, before the panelists review the recent England-Ireland Test at Lord’s and wonder what Ireland’s Test future might look like.

Kumar Sangakkara joins the show to give a neutral’s take on the Ashes and the World Test Championship final.

  1. I find it odd that every 1 seems to think that Moen is getting the call despite retiring from Test last year also that Ahmed and Jacks are the next up when Dan Lawrence is surely the next up with the fact he's in the ashes Squad. Whatever u think of him surely he's been picked in the side as the second Spinner with Root as the part-timer

  2. It's a huge blow. And none of the options are that great either, either having been away for too long (Mo, Dawson) or a lack of Tests (Rehan, Jacks). Leach was such a bonus as he was able to rest seamers. I know they'll have gone after him but still…. Stokes really had his back.

  3. Just play Chris Woakes! It is so obvious yet no one on SKY ever mentions his name (apart from Nasser). Woakes averages 35 with the bat and 22 with the ball in England. It is his home venue and he is the only bowler who can bat. Woakes' has a better home average than both Anderson and Broad yet still he remains at the back of the queue to get a match. Madness.

  4. Sorry, but Leach is hardly a major loss. He's the type of finger spinner that Aussies have always eaten up and spat out.

  5. im aware most say you always want a spinner in the side, but if there isnt a good one available, then dont pick one. just go with 4 pace bowlers.

  6. Should pick either parkinson or dawson, will pick rehan or Livingston if Moen turns them down tho

  7. As an English supporter, England is going to get destroyed.

No solid batsman (except for Root), an old medium paced attack, and no spinner now….

  8. Have they completely forgotten that Moeen Ali is Nathan Lyon’s bunny when batting?

  9. India will struggle as per usual in the finals. Australia is going to cakewalk this encounter.

  10. For blokes that spend so much time watching cricket, you do have some absolutely shockingly bad opinions

  11. I dont think there's any mystery to Stokes' injury. He's clearly nowhere near fit enough to bowl, but doesn't want to give the Aussies a boost by openly saying it

  12. People are wildly overrating Leach, he's a very average bowler who cant bat

  13. They say sometimes being out of a side makes you a better cricketer in the eyes of others … how true that is hear. Jack Leach has been underrated for ages, at least he is now getting appreciated for the qualities he brings to the team!
I hope the England management find the answer to the 'Leach replacement' option; but SURELY however positive and forward looking the England team want to be playing 'Bazball' they must have a plan in place for every injury option? With Leach's Crohn's condition* surely he is more prone to being ruled out at short notice?
*Yes, I know he has had a good run of playing over the past year, but before that the poor guy missed a lot of cricket

  14. If the spinner is going to go at 5/6 an over anyway, why wouldn't you go for your most exciting wicket taking option, Rehan Ahmed?
