If the Florida Panthers run has taught us anything; a hot playoff goalie is half the recipe in making a deep run. I'm just not sure if Skinner and Campbell are of that caliber. Mind you Campbell did strangely well when filling in on relief but we never got to see him do a full game.
Goalie coach change, is a small move with upside of changing an approach to playing the crease, play off goalies require athleticism to recover from playing the percentages, square to the play and positioning in the blue paint. Playing the percentages is not always the best approach to four game elimination strategies and scenarios of offensive players and desires to lift Stanley….
I really like the idea of off season training with specific experts. Like Mike Smith could teach puck handling bring him in and have his role as associate goalie coach.
I don’t think they should overreact but the regular season isn’t the same level as the playoffs. They played under their potential and they need to sort that out. And some roster changes are in order if only medium sized ones.
Fire Dustin Schwartz for starters. I’d say find a way to get some better goalies but I don’t see that happening. Maybe a new goaltending coach can get some more of them.
