  1. To cancel the matchplay is a tragedy! It’s bracket. It’s the head to head. The risk reward.

  2. Tiger was the last guy to really use a long iron off the tee on a regular basis to his advantage. I do think it's time for a change

  3. This match play at this course is one of the best events of the year on the PGA outside the majors. PGA don't screw up by doing away with this tournament & messing with the golf ball distance. You will end up driving away people from the game. Shalom

  4. Valspar t-27 to 36 was even par after that t37 to last place was over par …point being the ball isnt the issue, also look at the scores at arnold palmer – ball isnt the issue.

  5. That guy right there is the problem with golf. Probably still wears long white socks with his tailored shorts 😂

  6. A rollback is not the answer. It's unfair to penalize today's golfers because they work harder on every aspect of the game than previous generations. Every single course can narrow the fairways and grow the rough. If accuracy and short game are made a premium, then all this bs about how far the ball goes will disappear.

  7. you will see these pga guys struggle with scoring if they slowed the green speed way down..these guys put better the faster the greens are..taking the putter back 5 inches to have it roll 15 ft is what they are used to..slow the greens down to 9 or 10 where they have to really swing there putter and you will see 3 putts all day long

  8. Once upon a time, golf pros were not exactly well conditioned athletes as they are today. If anything has changed, it's primarily the golfer who lifts weights, works out, and has a diet to optimize his performance. Dustin Johnson, from what I read, could dunk a basketball just standing under the rim. Bryson DeChambeau is an engineering geek who has optimized his equipment and his body to hit a ball unheard of distances. And, Jon Rahm looks like the circus strong man who can bend iron bars with his bare hands. Combine that with the fact that these athletes have modern, well-engineered equipment and that 1.68 inch, 1.68 ounce ball will travel farther than it did 40 years ago.
What should be done? Go back to the equipment that Allan Robertson used to finally break 80 at The Old Course 170-odd years ago? I believe Jon Rahm was on point when he said that messing with the ball was "a solution in search of a problem."
And, cancelling the match play is pitiful. Then again, what if Greg Norman jumps on this and stages a match play LIV tournament there? Sounds like a winner for him and an embarrassment for the PGA Tour.

  9. Sad to see the Tour leave Austin. The course is different from the usual type of flat, more open places that the tour frequents.
As for the distances that pros are currently hitting the ball it's either dialing back the equipment or accepting that soon a score of 59 will no longer be a significant benchmark.
As for other factors, let's face it, rules have been changed to make the game easier – the line of the putt can now be groomed whereas before it was untouchable, "lift clean and replace" has become the norm when a course isn't perfect, the rules for grounding the club in a hazard and removing loose impediments in a hazard are softer, the prevalence of aimpoint with players and caddies both straddling the line of the putt and doing a toddler-like shuffle to feel slope on the greens is something that prior generations didn't do. We are probably not far from the day when relief will be granted from a ball stopping in a divot because it's "unfair." Under the guise of "evolution" the game is being made easier. Just for giggles it would be fun to see an event played with wooden woods and balata balls.

  10. Don’t change the hall for the amateurs. Just make the pros play a balata in the final round or allow fans to talk in the middle of the players swing …a smaller hole?;)

  11. God forbid these guys shoot 20 under on a historic course. They're still competing with each other ffs.

How'd those groove changes work out? They wiped the demographic they were meant to help off the tour.
