GM Kevin Goh Wei Ming on deep opening preparation with 1.e4

GM Kevin Goh Wei Ming won the Singapore National Championships 2023. Starting as the 2nd seed and now being the CEO of his Federation, it was clear that Kevin was not the favourite to win the title. However, he managed to do so, and he attributes this to his extremely smart and deep opening preparation. What did his preparation revolve around? And how did he prepare with white playing 1.e4 against the Sicilian, 1…e5 and Caro Kann, we get to learn in this livestream. Don’t miss GM Kevin’s instructive chess video with IM Sagar Shah.

  1. This was a nice stream ! 👏😊
Sagar bhaai, can you please explain in some other stream how does a professional chess player decides which standard or prepared line is the best for him/her to go ahead during the game if he/she does not already know his/her opponent ? And, how he/she decides, thinks and comes up with his/her own line by making a novelty move ? When does a player decides that he/she can safely play a novelty move and how is the risk assessed and taken care of ?
What if the opponent himself/herself surprises the chess player ( under our consideration ) by playing a very different move and successfully gains control ? Example : a winning position could become a draw-like position.
Wishing you a happy and beautiful day ahead ! Take care.. 👋☺️
