  1. I agree with Yorkie on Brannstrom, I like the kid, he's playing amazing but he would be a better fit somewhere where he can get a spot on the top PP unit to be at his best

  2. It's a funny situation because a lot of our top 4 are able-bodied guys that can do shutdown defense. Sanderson, Zub, Chychrun, Chabot.. no pure offensive defenseman. What's wrong with running Brannstrom on the bottom 6? It's offensive depth from the defense. 2 years from now if Brannstrom is paired with Kleven I feel like that's a pretty solid pairing. I say keep Brannstrom, he's showing he wants to step up.

  3. Can we rely on Chychurn though he's been beat up most games he's played since coming here

  4. Here's a question for the next pod. When Norris comes back next year, is he 1C after what we saw from Tim this year? Or do you move him to 2C, where he will not have to go against the top defenders on the other team. I feel like whoever is 2C next year is going to put up a truck load of points.

  5. As much as I don’t like brannstrom, he’s been playing well lately and if the rumors are true with Philly moving on from carter hart, why not make a package and get him in Ottawa using brannstrom?

  6. Should Brannstrom be moved to being forward, has the hands and the speed. Just undersized to be a top defencemen in the nhl

  7. 21:25 Completely agree with Bobby here. Timmy held onto the puck on the sidewall, drew the PKer towards him which opened the space up for Batherson. Tim then feeds Brady, who quickly sends it out to Drake in the space that opened up because Timmy lured the PKer away from his position.
Awesome pass by Drake, great shot by DeBrincat, but that goal doesn't happen without Timmy's patience on the sidewall.

  8. Holden, Hamonic out. Kleven, Bernard-Docker in. Branstrom similar to Chabot. Offensive talents but cough cough lots defensively

  9. There's no dilemma. Sign him for 2 to 3 years at least. It will be a good contract and easy to move if the young guys can surpass him. Can never have enough D, Especially considering the constant injuries this team has. The kid is coming into his zone and is nowhere near his ceiling

  10. Havent listened yet but there is no brannstrom dilemma. Hes a brilliant offensive player. We should all be happy about his unlucky scoring production up to this point so we can sign him to a cheap deal

  11. TRADE BRANNSTROM FOR ERIC KARLSON …..eric has 10….10… 4….1 ,,,,,remaining on his contract ,,,,,25 million over 4 years ,,,,,,6 million per year…….pretty good price foe a guy who is again in norris competition…and who calls ottawa his home town and who would be their leading points getter this year

  12. The Brännström discussion is weird.

    Chabot has 21 ES points
    Sanderson has 13 ES points
    Brännström has 13 ES points

His production doesn’t jump out at you, but the difference between Brännström and the other two is the PP production. He’s also produced with much less ice time, on a team that has struggled to score at ES all year.

And defensively, he’s been one of their better guys. I know Hamonic has the profile of a defensive guy with his hits and shot blocks, but Brännström has been miles better at limiting chances against.

I know analytics isn’t this show’s forte, but whoever is paired with Brännström tends to have their best performances. Nobody has worse numbers with him then away from him.

Factor in Chychrun’s injury history, and Chabot never playing a full season, it makes sense to keep him around. He won’t cost a lot to re-sign either, and the Sens need every dollar this off-season for DeBrincat.

I get that Kleven is the shiny new toy, but there is no guarantee he’s an NHL player. JBD and Thomson were both more highly touted, and they haven’t become full time NHLers yet. York saying that in two years Kleven will be above Brännström is an insane take. He hasn’t even played a pro game yet.

Sens have struggled with their Dcore for a decade, and people want to trade a guy who makes it better. Does a 2nd round pick in this draft really make the Sens better for the foreseeable future then Brännström?

I get that playoffs are a different beat and Brännström may struggle there, but the team has to make playoffs first.

  13. love this podcast great aanlysis. but laughable how you guys bring up kleven as a D for next year but not branny. do you not understand he's never played pro hockey??? Branny has been playing pro hockey for YEARS now. 27:35

  14. I agree with the branstrom fit. It’s shocking to me he’s even developed into an nhl player so kudos to the organization. I’m gonna bring him back next year that for sure just to see what his arc is like. I’d like to see 3 good pair next year instead of a “top 4”. They’ll have that opportunity with 6 good nhl D (I’d sign hamonic just to maintain roster continuity if nothing else)

  15. Brannstrom has an incredible amount of potential. As he gets more experience, he'll smooth out some issues, but right now, he's great defensively, probably is the best skater out of all defensemen and has a wicked shot. Please keep him

  16. Great hockey chat!
The K-Train will fast track!! His all round game is very very strong, and so is his work ethic, and coachability.
He'll be kickin' ass, and takin' names next season.
The Sandman will give the force to the other D-Men, and his alchemy with Kleven is already apparent. This D-Corps could do great things next year. This team , bext year, with good goaltending, and health on their side, could easily take the jump to a contender. The Sandman and the K-Train are the key. In my opinion, they're in the playoffs this year, with better coaching. (see Vancouver / Tocchet)
