NO GOLFER Seems to Know About This ESSENTIAL Move (Until Now)

I had to make this video after receiving so many comment son this topic in a previous video. Social media is an incredible tool, and as a golf coach passionate about helping people it can very quickly highlight swing ideas or concepts that are very misunderstood, and this is one of them

In this video i explain why no golfer seems to know about this essential move, why it has to be part of your golf swing and more importantly how you can practice this move.

In the past even just discussing this concept with golfers for many has been a light bulb moment and has helped them play better golf instantly as it has given them the freedom to go ahead and release the club correctly.

If you are lacking consistency in your game this key move could be what’s holding you back, and it could well be that your ideas on what should happen have been flawed

  1. So, answer this question:

Do the hands have to SLOW DOWN through impact?
… to allow the clubhead catch up 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Good stuff, Chris 👍🏻
Keep up there good work ⛳️🏌️‍♂️

p.s. Isn’t that the purpose of an IMPACT BAG? 🤔
… to learn how to square the clubface through impact?

  2. Well done, Chris. I've noticed when I focus on keeping the face square throughout, I become too stiff in my arms and wrists and lose power and flow as a result. I think the key is getting the face back to square "somewhere" in your downswing. That may be a different point for each golfer depending on their particular swing flaws, swing thoughts, ability to time it, etc. For me, earlier is better. But, it has to open and it has to close.

  3. Never commented on this channel before but I have been reading up about this "old vs new release" theory. I have to agree with you 100%. The whole idea that the body turn does all the work is frankly absurd from a body mechanics veiwpoint. OK, you don't want to get too flippy but you covered that in the end of the video. Nice one.

  4. Absolutely great explanation. Chris most golfer have an over the top swing. That's why its hard to square the clubface. So your explanation has to help with timing the swing. Tame your swing to hit square is the key.

  5. only way to release the club with square face at point of impact . Been practicing that hip to hip follow thorugh for 3 months and i am hitting the ball straighter with a minor FADE . thanks for the help with this video

  6. Thank you for that explanation. I'm tired of hearing it's all about rotation to square the face up.. makes me feel like I've been playing wrong all this time. Thanks

  7. Great advice to those that disagree. Been watching your vids for years. I consider you my golf coach!! You have never steered us wrong!!

  8. For me, the best way to work on this is to practice hitting 40-50yd pitch shots over and over again. Since you're not taking the club back any further than the last parallel you're working on takeaway and squaring the club through impact. If I start my practice session with a healthy amount of pitching, my full swing benefits.

  9. A move within a few milliseconds cannot be _conscious_. It can only happen _by itself_. Hence it all happens because you throw the club into the ball while rotating. Look at all the pros in slomo. Ball contact does not happen in a position similar to address. The hips are turned as the head of the club contacts the ball. Look at this Rory thumbnail (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ro7RZErg7ng) and tell me he has not turned before striking the ball.

  10. Nice video as always, Chris. The only question I have when you say that the club face is open during the takeaway is that it is really not open; it's at a 90 degree angle to the swing path which is what it should be. Correct? And that if you keep the face at 90 degrees to the swing arc, the face will hit the ball squarely. What am I missing?

  11. Yep. The only way to set the club properly at the top is to naturally allow the lead forearm to rotate, and the right forearm to be thrown back 90* above the right elbow. Most amateurs never feel this move, because they’re too stiff and worried about the clubface. You have to learn to let go of some of that “control” feeling, if you want effortless speed, and consistent strike.

  12. I love your videos soo this is a pure question – what if you “bow” your wrist in the back swing likeColin, or Jon rahm or Tommy Fleewood – that way it’s square as you rotate thru 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

  13. Good vid Chris. Too many pros/coaches, even now, describe the position at the top of the backswing as square when the club is 'laid' on the swing/shaft plane. I don't think a lot of instructors realise the importance of choosing their words correctly. As golfers we have all wasted a lot of time following ideas that we have misunderstood. Far too much ambiguity in golf.

  14. « You are the golfer, you are responsible.. » too rare of a language on Youtube … Thanks Chris.

  15. I heard you say that it happens in a millisecond and it’s incredibly difficult (5:30) and you have to work on timing…. Not my swing thought. I suggest others don’t follow this train of thought.

  16. Thing is though, when the club is straight back (horizontal) the face should actually be about 20deg or so closed, not open 90deg like what you are showing. Your 90 open face at that position is from 20 year old teaching (and older) before all of the body measuring dynamics have taken hold. We now know better.

  17. I have been working with a very accomplished instructor for about two years, completely remaking my swing from an extremely ugly, ineffective and technically unsound state into one that actually looks quite good and is fundamentally sound (and my scoring in handicap reflect these improvements). One of the things that has taken me the longest to accomplish is the correct timing of the wrists rotating the clubface open. Since I had an old habit of rotating my wrists too early and bringing the clubhead way too far inside at the start of the backswing, it was hard for me to give it to myself to make that move later in the swing. Just within the last month I finally have it down. I almost have to feel like I am exaggerating rotating the club face to the sky, but in reality when looking at my swing on video everything is perfectly on plane. I am about 90% complete on correct timing to square the clubface at impact (mostly good pure contact, but occasionally flare one out to the right or hit a low pull hook). It’s a process, right? But the point is, you are exactly on point with this lesson and it coincides exactly with the timing of what I’m working on! Great video, as always! Keep up the fantastic content!

  18. If you keep your left wrist bowed in the backswing the club stays square throughout the swing. When I take my club back the face is pointing out and slightly down, not up to the sky as you demonstrated. Therefore my body rotation delivers the face square to the ball.

  19. Trying to keep the club face from rotating in the backswing has cost me many years or bad golf!!

  20. Interesting Chris, some golf tutors would argue the club face you describe as 'open' is actually square to square throughout the swing. Might just be interpretation or semantics. BTW, you have a great golf swing matey.

  21. There is still a huge misunderstanding……you are squaring the leading edge to the target line. There is a difference between the leading edge and club face. Squaring the club face is having the club face 90 degrees to the target line. The club face is vertical to the target line the ball will start left and move left. The intent is to have the club face vertical( 90 degrees) to the swing line it creates the correct dynamic loft and start direction of the ball.
