Hey Mike – the Chubb Classic is actually in my neighborhood, so I went for the first 2 days of practice and I’ll go everyday of the tournament.
Interestingly, I have not seen one fade from Fred so far this week. His driver has been a low ripping draw and his irons have been moonballs that are are ALL falling to the left. Also, I never noticed, but at address his club is way shut to his target-line…bigtime. I stood behind him on the 160 yard par 3 and the face of his 7 iron was aimed at the left edge of the left bunker at address. He’s drawing everything to the pin and even drawing all of his wedges….it’s weird.
I took a close look at his bag to see what he’s playing…..J38 (not J40’s) Pocket Cavity irons with i95 Steelfiber shafts (not 110’s) an ATV 54 wedge, an old Cleveland 485 lob wedge, 10.5 Stealth driver with a Ventus shaft, and the new addition is a Paradym 3 wood that’s 14 degrees.
During the practice round, I asked Fred about the missing Squareway and he said that he’s looking for a new one, but can’t find one that sits “closed enough at address.” After watching him play 72 holes (so far) he’s still getting it around, but he’s now turning the ball over to find more length throughout his bag.
