Mike McCarthy spoke to the media at the NFL Scouting Combine to provide insight on the Dallas Cowboys 2023 season. The team parted ways with Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore, who took the same job for the Los Angeles Chargers. While he did praise his former OC, he also shared that the two did not always have the same vision, saying quote: ‘Kellen wants to light the scoreboard up, but I want to run the damn ball so I can rest my defense.’ Emmanuel Acho, Joy Taylor, LeSean McCoy and David Helman weigh in on whether they had an issue with McCarthy’s comments or not.

These takes don’t make any sense. When Kellen took over play calling, it became obvious he wanted to light up the scoreboard. They’re using just this season when this has been the issue for sometime. Using the chiefs, bucs and rams to make a point is horrible because you’re talking about 2 of the top 5 QBs in nfl history. Rams had coaching, elite wrs and defense.

The hate be real for the cowboys anybody who actually watch our games would understand where McCarthy is coming from Kellen abandoned the run in too many games especially with leads…look at the jags game he run the ball we run the clock out and didn't have to even go to OT but he passed 3 straight downs gave more time to the other team. If you wanted to run the ball more, he should have said something to Kellan Moore. He was the head coach. Stop making excuses.
So in one breath he says he has all the confidence in the world that Dak is their guy but then says they have to run the ball more even though they were in the top 10 in rushing attempts. If he truly has confidence in Dak he would be happy with the type of balanced attack they had.

They’re all missing the point. Dave kinda touched on it slightly. It’s the situational plays that Kellen struggled with in big/gotta have it games. He tended to shrink the playbook in those games n call the same 4 plays no matter what. Obviously it was more nuanced than that but for sake of argument that’s essentially what happened the last few years. Also just bc Mike is saying this, it doesn’t mean that they didn’t have as many runs as they did bc of Mike changing things during install n during games. That can be very much true as well. Kellen could have been pass happy with install n Mike slowed him down which could be what Mike is referring to.
