Jack Nicklaus | First and Last | The Open Championship



Known fondly as ‘The Golden Bear’ – Jack Nicklaus is one of the most decorated champions in golfing history.

The American won 18 major Championships during his career, including three Open Championships. He lifted the Claret Jug in 1966, 1970 and 1978, firmly cementing his legacy at The Open.

He made his Open debut at Royal Troon in 1962 at The 91st Open and would go on to make a total of 38 appearances. His final appearance in 2005 was at St Andrews, where he was given a heroes farewell.

During his final round, he was given a 10-minute ovation as he stood proudly on the Swilcan Bridge, absorbing all of the cheers and adulation from the crowd in one of the most iconic moments in Open history.

  2. It’s a shame Norman and Faldo didn’t continue to have a senior career as Jack did and of course Langer.
