Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods are all household names when it comes to golf. However, there is one name that is often overlooked in the conversation: Ernie Langer. Langer is a professional golfer who has been winning on the PGA tour for more than four decades. What makes Langer’s success so special is that he has done it with a very simple golf swing.

So, why does Langer keep on winning with his simple golf swing? The answer lies in the fact that he has perfected a few basic fundamentals that all golfers should strive to emulate.

First, Langer keeps his setup and swing consistent. He maintains a good posture and makes sure that his feet, hips and shoulders are in alignment throughout the swing. This helps him to create a consistent swing plane and make solid contact with the ball.

Second, Langer uses a smooth tempo in his swing. His backswing and downswing are both seamless and he doesn’t try to force the ball to go farther. This helps him to maintain accuracy and control of his shots.

  1. Only reason I’m curious is cause I was told overlap helps draw the ball I tried it and the face with more open then anything cause of the wrist hinge I was getting

  2. His wonderful swing has held up for many years, great consistency…..makes it look easy! I think your 5 key points were spot on…..

  3. Much as I like Alex and his tutorials I don’t think Langar has a swing anyone would want to try and copy despite having a stellar career, even for a relatively small man I think his swing was / is unnaturally flat even in his younger days to a point where I thought he always looked awkward through the ball and maybe the reason he has to turn his head so much on the backswing to give his left shoulder room if he swing more upright he could allow his shoulder to pass under his chin , if you want a text book swing look at Larry Mize yes / no ? Even Hogan wasn’t that flat, but I like your channel Alex .

  4. I've always stood square toed. No idea why. Just my style. Well I'm 58 this year and feel I need to make my turn and follow through easier to complete. I'm wondering if I should just try my lead foot only first. I have tried it but like a grip change I have found it hard to do and it feels really weird. I'm a 4.3 index. What do you think?
