Why I'm Bullish on the LSU Defense in 2022

After Further Review On Demand is powered by BREC Golf

LSU defensive coordinator Matt House spoke to the media ahead of the Tigers weekend practice. Matt House evaluates the defense as a whole and each position group individually. How are the transfers adapting and which stars are standing out?

  1. i agree coach kelly has did more then impress with roster management in such a short time, i think this def will be better then both of the last 2 seasons combined. i see alot of teams having trouble in the run game and on protecting the QB this season. if true we all know what happens when a team becomes one dimensional. 10-2 said it here first with a possible at 11-1.

  2. He certainly has the name for a great D coordinator. I can't wait to see what they look like this year and especially next.

  3. After last Wednesday's scrimmage when the offense moved the ball so well on the defense, a lot of people expressed concern of the defense. However, I think that's more a sign that LSU's offense will be very strong in 2022. As LSU's offense in 2019 was also moving the ball on LSU's defense pretty damn well too.

  4. I love this guy! I think House is going to be a Force in the SEC for as long as you can keep him on the staff. With the way they are recruiting, he will have a wealth of talent.

  5. Just listening to these football coaches talk makes me so damn excited for the future of LSU football. We FINALLY have the coaches to match the talent, we had a taste of it with Saban but it disappeared before we could blink. Of course the assistants won't stay forever but BK will absolutely be able to consistently bring in top assistants. And side note we now have top tier head coaches in ALL of the major sports in LSU's athletic department. Football, Baseball, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, etc. I'll say it again.. Scott Woodward is the GOAT! Geaux Tigers

  6. They will need to hit the portal again for CBs. It is going to take some time to build the pipeline.

  7. Every 4 years LSU has the potential to win a Natty! 2003, 2007, 2012 fail, 2016 fail, 2019, 2022, to 2023 should be another natty! So basically without bad coach LSU should win a Natty give or take a year, around a 4 year period, with just mediocre coaching, with just recruiting alone, especially in State talent! To me if LSU is to keep Bama, and other SEC teams from stealing players out of Louisiana alone then LSU benefits greatly, just by recruiting by itself! Saban definitely cherry picks talent away from LSU! Keep him out of Louisiana, and you can win many more nattys!

  8. He said “All-Airport Team when they get off the bus”

  9. This LSU defense will create mayhem and chaos all season long. These coaches are phenomenal in their approach, so look for the defense to cause a lot of 3 and outs

  10. Since we're here together in the YouTube comments, how 'bout I just throw out a little prophecy: We will beat FSU, but not by much. A very spirited but lopsided Southern game (go Jags!, I had HS graduation there), and we beat Miss St, but not by much. New Mexico has a football team? Jinx/bulletin board material but 4 and 0 we will be. Auburn is crazy-town, but they currently are in the depressive phase of their bipolar football program, whereas Tennessee is a former prom queen crushed by mid-life inconsequence. Looking at 6-0 without a quality win, but against top-tier talent in several contests. Oh I deleted that sentence after 4-0 that I will re-create it now: "This juggernaut will slowly crush the first few opponents and gain unstoppable momentum, thanks to some very professional coaching and a sweet early sched." Nope that's nothing like the first version, but I like it!
Then we wade into the Swamp. Look, Billy Napier coached at LSU. We don't hate him. He has just lost his way. If Dan Mullen could make MSU threatening and fail at UF, what chance does Billy have? BK is worth three B-Naps, the Swamp is worth -4.5 to the visitor, and our HC dominated D-2 ball and then graduated to a small Catholic school in Indiana for some D-1 experience. I'll take his first-year LSU team over Napier's first-year UF team. Experience counts.
But it will be hard fought. And injury attrition will accumulate, so Ole Miss will threaten in Tiger Stadium. This will be Lane Kiffin's biggest chance for a statement victory as a head football coach. AT 7-0 LSU, taking on a head coach he has schemed against successfully, this sets up perfectly for the Re… Bears. They picked "Bears," right?
Thank your divine power of choice, Lane Kiffin was BORN to blow perfect opportunities. Born tall, blonde, witty, wealthy, and to football royalty, he's divorced, kicked off St. Nick's "nice" list, and with a fond hat tip to Leslie Miles, he will bring his dreams to die, once more, this time in the place most perfect for it.
We have to lose the 'Bama game. Trust me on this. I don't mean tank it. I mean fight like… well, Tigers! And be perfectly philosophical about a close, competitive loss. I'll come back to this.
We will need the edge of a fresh loss to go to Arkansas and come back winners. This is a game some people would consider a "let-down" or "overlook" opportunity. But not off a fresh 'Bama loss. We don't slink away and lick our wounds, we feel the pain and we ROAR! Check what Mark Richt had to say about that. AND it will be close. Take nothing for granted. This won't be 2019 again.
It will be 2011 again, but with the script flipped. Hey, O!
That 'Bama loss will still sting, UAB will barely distract from the pain and the Aggies will be way too optimistic about their chances.
We won't make the SEC championship, but our 11-1 regular season will take us back.. to the future! Like 2011, we will rematch with UA, but I like our shot at the rematch. In 2011-2012 we had it all but lost it. In 2022-23 we flip the evens and the odds, and we find it. Ya'll never knew what Ed meant by flip the script, and neither did he. He just heard that stuff coaching out in Hollywood that one time. Now you know. History does not repeat, but it rhymes.

  11. The defensive line could legit be the best in the country. Linebackers will be a solid group. If the secondary can come together, specifically if JBC can play on an island as the number one CB and take over a side of the field that will allow the other guys to get the job done playing as a unit on the back level. If Sevyn Banks, Greg Brooks Jr, and the rest of the transfers could come together then the defense could be one of the best overall units that has been at LSU in a few years. If given the time on the back end from the secondary the defensive line could reek havok on opposing offensive lines. Maason Smith and Jacqueline Roy are going to destroy the inside of those lines, with B.J. and Gaye rushing the passer each and every down is a truly scary position group. If the offense is even a decent group overall then this team can win 10 games easy because the defense will keep this team in every game they play.
