  1. Great video. Thank you. I’m a 48 year old male, currently with a handicap of 6 ( it blew out due to Covid and courses being closed in Australia). Recently, I’ve changed clubs as an update and to swap out my 4 and 5 irons with 4 and 5 Hybrids.
Have driver, 3 and 5 wood. The 5 wood is used for me in slightly different areas than the Hybrids. The main area is when the ball is basically in the middle of the fairway, the Hybrids when off. Much easier to hit consistently than a 4 or 5 iron. As they are different clubs.

  2. A better comparison would be to compare the Hybrids with the irons they are intended to replace? As any hybrid is different to the woods and not designed to replace those, rather the long irons. 👍😎

  3. mid 6 handi, 5 wood only good if you can strike it properly. I have a 21* hybrid up adjusted to 23* to replace my 4 iron and hit it high and straight. Just ordered a 18* hybrid to replace my 5 wood as my miss with the 5 wood was all over the place, no confidence with it at all which is weird because I have a 4 wood that I hit just fine. I just feel like hybrids are easier to "get under the ball" with…perhaps the shorter length promotes more of an iron swing so it's easier to hit down as opposed to the longer wood.

  4. I vote my Hybrid over my particular 5 wood, but more importantly, you've sold me on a very similar belt that I've been debating about buying, looks great!

  5. That Hybrid is NOT going to replace that 5 wood..
That Hybrid will replace a long iron.
But fuck that Hybrid and get a 7 and 9 wood instead.
    They're WAY better than Hybrids.
    1, 3, 5, 7, 9 Woods,
    6, 7, 8, 9, Irons,
    Pitch, Gap, Sand, Lob, Wedges,
    Putter.

  6. Cool video… I learned a good bit. Ordered a 7 wood last week and should be here soon, can’t wait to try it vs my Mavrik Pro hybrid

  7. Hybrid for sure. I use a cobra from 2019 that has the 2 rails on the sole, and I love the turf interaction with it. Makes it so much easier to hit off the deck than my fairway wood. And for me, I need all the help I can get 😂

Also: third option for giving it all you got: when your ball fails you and you need to rage off the next tee and send that thing into its grave aka the woods

  8. Another question would be what does the course require. Is there long par 3 where you would use a tee? 195-210yds Are there long par 5’s where you would use either to reach the green? 530yds

  9. dude…this is like I say tomato and you say tomato. Or your wife says dildo and your neighbors wife says dildo.

Okay….Tomato or Tomato or Dildo or Dildo or Potato or Potato?!?!?!?!

    Thanks Mr. short.

  10. Is 15 degrees a strong loft for a 5 wood? I have a 21 degree 5 wood and I love it. I have the most confidence in that club.

  11. Either for now, depends on the course I’m playing. I’m lucky enough to have a few “floaters” to swap out if needed. Sometimes I have to drop my 3 wood and carry a 5 and a 7 wood.

  12. I have a 5W (18deg) and 4H (22deg). Wasn’t able to hit the 3W well off the deck when trying out the clubs so I skipped it. Been thinking about adding it back now that I’m improving my swing. And could always just use the 3W as a tee club if need be

  13. Hey what’s your launch monitor setup I’m sure you have a video somewhere on it? Also great videos a lot of fun to fiddle with swing using them.

  14. I've been wrestling with this recently! Both my 19 deg 5w and my 20 deg hybrid are the hardest clubs for me to hit. Might ditch them both and bump up my 23 deg utility to 3rd place and add another wedge as i only use p, s, and 60. Lol. I've been reaching for the utility off the tee in more situations than i care to admit.

  15. I had an older 5 wood which I replaced with a 3hybrid which had the same 19°degrees of loft. And I have to say since the 3 hybrid is much newer with better technology than the 5 wood I have found it to be easier to hit and for my club way better. I have a similar setup as you Driver, 3Wood 4-9, Pw,GW,LW and putter. So far I haven't regretted it!!

  16. A well struck fairway wood is a beautiful thing. But for me it’s all about the misses…a mis hit with a fairway wood can be catastrophic. Hybrids are MUCH safer for me.

  17. I'm tempted to get a 7 wood actually. Seen some guys say it's their favourite club for shaping mid fairway shots

  18. I think you made a mistake. A 5W wouldn't be 15° more like 18°. The 3W is 15°.
    Edit: Looking closely at the 5W you're showing, it's also 18° 😀

  19. @MrShortGame Golf can you do putting drill videos again? Maybe target it at mid-high handicaps who have really never spent time training their putting. I usually go to a practice green and pick cups and fire at them. I’ve never practiced in any structured way before

  20. I agree that a low handicap player might want a 3w, then HY, then 4i, but that combo isn't ideal for most mid to high handicap golfers. From what I see, most mid to high handicap players ditch their 4i for a HY, but often leave their 5w in the bag. As someone on the higher end of a mid handicap, I play a weak lofted 3w, 5w, 7w, then my irons start at 5i. Never got along with hybrids once the honeymoon period ended.

  21. Hello there. Question, have you seen or reviewed any Lazarus hybrids? I have seen them on Amazon and was interested if they were a good club to purchase. Thank you.

  22. I have a Tour Edge c721 5 wood 18°. Great high penetrating ball flight. Hot face. I don't need no stinking 3 wood.

  23. Good choice MRSG, I love the 5 wood for high and low shots and I use it instead of my 3 wood when down wind, plus the fact that you can choke up on it to add 3 more distance changes with a nice soft landing ability. I would dump my 3 wood except for the fact that I use the penetrating flight of it for narrow holes when I must find the fairway and let it run. PS – I've already removed my 3 & 4 irons, as I've gone with a 4 & 5 hybrids in their place, because they are much better out of the rough.

  24. Great vid. Just curious on the strong 5 wood at 15 degrees. Why not split the difference and use a 4 wood?. I’ve been using a 4 wood for years now. I use the length of a 3 wood with a 16-17 loft. Best of both worlds. Decent distance with a higher more forgiving trajectory. Loft is our friend my golfing buddies.

  25. I dont understand how everytime im having a dilemma you post a video about it the next day.

  26. Tried a number of hybrids but could never get comfortable. 5w and 7w in the bag. Same model as my 3w so makes me more comfortable with the same look. Will swap 7w for 4iron depending on the course or conditions of the day.

  27. went with 2 thru pw in hybrids have trouble hitting irons, not hitting hybrids much better LOL! 3 wood in shed and 5 wood iffy! Hacker whacker!

  28. I tend to top shots with hyprid so i have now iron4. Never have 5wood but have to try it next week! Thanks👍

  29. I have those exact 2 clubs in my bag. I recently ditched my 60 degree to fill the gap between my 5W and 4I with the 3 hybrid. However, I seem to hook the hybrid too much. Need some range time to dial it in. I also top the hybrid way too much. To me, and my game, the 3W isn't that important. Thats just me though. Matt…..you are AMAZING!!! Love everything you put out there for us. THANK YOU!!!

  30. Love the video, could you by chance do a video on simulator set ups. I'm looking to put one together in my home. Thanks. I know you have went through good and bad with your set up

  31. You pretty much discribe my bad set up right there, 60° LW, 56°SW, 52° PW, 9-4 irons, 22° 5 wood, 18° 3 wood, 9.5° Driver.. a classic set up, no need for extra wedges, because if there is a shot I can't play with those three wedges, adding another wedge isn't gonna make it possible, 3 wedges with 4° gaps is perfect.

  32. Actually I keep a 4h and a 7w in the bag. No 4i, because I feel I don't have enough club speed for it. It screwed down both by 1.5° to adapt to my gapping. So I have the ability to play out of the rough yet get my 2nd shot far enough for my wedge and the 7w from good lies to directly aim for the green. That really works well, they're the Ping G425 max, very forgiving and performing.

  33. Great information. I was fit with Tour Edge hl that set has no 3 wood but 5 wood and 5 hybred . I love them. Thanks
