  1. I hate it when the 150 marker is the disc in the fairway instead of posts on the sides. Most of the golfers I play with including me aren't in the middle of the fairways so don't know when we are 150 away

  2. I'm real suspect of the WHS as you can put casual rounds in 5 or 6 times a week with your mates and bump your handicap right up, then go and kill it on a weekend in a comp.

  3. I shot 33 points round Portal yesterday playing off 12 hcap. Had 3 double bogeys and an 11 on par 5 3rd hole. I was not happy with 33 points 🤣🤣🤣 however, in my head I like to think I'm capable of shooting level par or better! 🤣🤣🤣

  4. I can give you a good example of what can happen early in your handicap journey, I know you asked for people to write in about this. I only started playing last year and because of course not being counting until April, I have only just been able to get my handicap. My first 54 holes were fairly poor, two of them were done whilst playing with more senior members as part of 'New Member Days' including playing with the vice captain of the club and one of them was off the white tees which I'd not played before and there was some poor course management on my part. Bearing in mind my best round from the yellow tees previously was 91, my handicap was first based off 101 off the white tees, which gave me a WHS score of 30.7. I knew this didn't reflect me at my best because I had shot much lower scores, so I decided to not enter any comps. A week later I went out with a couple of regular playing partners and submitted a general play score the day after the comp (so same pin positions) and scored an enormous 49 stableford points. My handicap dropped to 18.7 in one round. It's now stabilised a bit after a few more rounds at 21.1 but I've heard this happens a lot where you do your 54 holes and then you see a huge drop off after that. But I'm glad I didn't enter that comp as there may have been some questions asked.

  5. i saw a course, where every cart, has a rake in it, so you always have a rake, and you dont have to worry about your ball hitting a rake on course

  6. Supply free metal pitch repairers and have soil with seed on every tee. Ask every player to use the pitch repairer, rake bunkers, replace divots & use the soil/ seed on each tee

  7. Great podcast but I have a question. If you quit who am I going to blame for my golf score lol 😂.

  8. Fellas the way golf is set up its very difficult to practice specific shots that my game needs works on. Too many shots that you cannot replicate even on the driving range. The only way to practice certain shot is by playing 9 orv18 holes but then those certain shots you can't play more than once because the couse is busy. There needs to be a way to practice better with out spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to a course with an amazing practice facility.

  9. Our course put out a big box of divot / sand mix beside the 1st and 10th tees.. but no bags to put put the mix into so you can carry it with you.

  10. I hate pitch-marks on greens and usually find myself fixing 3-5 per hole while my mates putt. If I owned a golf course or was a superintendent, I would buy a few of the greenskeeper standup pitch-mark tools. I'd offer a round of drinks for each group that used it to fix pitch marks as they played.

  11. If the person why sent the Dear Rick reads this, try tracking:
    – tee shots not in play (i.e., no clear second shot)
    – net bogeys within 100 yards
    – 3 putts
    – 2 chips
This will help you identify which areas you need to improve! The secret to scoring well is keeping the ball in play and short game. The average 80 shooter only hits something like 36% of GIR

  12. I'm all for being relatable but I'm also curious to see what someone like Rick could do in a couple of weeks of grinding at a top facility with a top coach

  13. Hey Rick.. if you get Tiger to shoot a video.. what about a Chip & Putt course? that will be great to show his skills 🙂

  14. Another one for what every golf club should have, all bunkers raked in the morning before play. Fluff them up a bit. Annoys me when they haven't been.

  15. Can I get an opinion on going to a better golf course? Currently me and a few friends play on a local golf course which is decent for new starters but it’s not very well kept. We’d love to start going to a better course but we don’t think we would be confident enough to play infront of regulars as we’d be conscious they would be waiting a long time for us on holes.

  16. Ash trays at every tee box. Tons of people smoke both cigars and cigarettes would seriously help cut down on litter and make the smokers feel more comfortable

  17. The golf ball question is interesting. I started playing a year ago and am playing off 14 currently. Which some people question, but I think my baseball background and being at the course minimum 5 days a week helped. Another big thing that helped was consistently using the same golf ball, when I first started I would use various premium balls that you find throughout a round. Later realizing that it would be better to use whatever ball you can afford to practice and play with. Kirkland in my case, cant imagine being as consistent with putting or chipping when I’m swapping soft and hard golf balls that fly and spin different. That are too many variables in golf, at least you can make the ball a constant

  18. I used to know a greenskeeper that would purposely aim the tee box markers off line, just to mess with people🙄

  19. I'd recommend Callaway supersoft if you're just starting out, they cost about 22 US for 2 dozen, they feel great and give good distance and if you lose one or a dozen it doesn't kill your wallet👍
