On this episode of the Cobe Life LPGA Tour predictions series I make my LPGA tour Favorites, Dark Horses, and Sleeper picks for the DIO Implant LA Open event at Wilshire Country Club.

The LPGA LA Open is a relatively new tournament. This will only be it’s fourth time running. That doesn’t mean that the players are unfamiliar with the course though. Actually quite a few have played many Rounds there during their College years. It serves as a practice and tournament facility for both USC and UCLA players. I have taken that into consideration with my picks for this year’s tournament.
I have also included a couple Rookies among my LPGA Tour picks at the DIO Implant LA Open because the new crop of players have been exceptionally good early on this year. In fact my other Sleeper at this event is another Rookie. Pauline Roussin-Bouchard has ahd a very up and down start to the season. Now from what I have seen her style of play lends itself to long courses with favorable conditions. She does not play well in bad weather or on windy days. So how ell she does at the DIO Implant LA Open in 2022 might just come down to the weather forecast.

I'm resting 3 of my regulars this week–Hataoka, Maguire & Saso–as they've either been struggling or are not well suited to the Wilshire Country Club.
Saying that, Patty T & Thitikun should perform well here and they've both shown good form. @70/1 I've taken Sei Young Kim this week. Although she's been slow to start this season, these odds are favourable imo. Kang @33/1 & Kupcho @40/1 were also too good to resist for me.
Conditions appear to be fair for this week in LA so Bouchard might be a nice pick @90/1…

Thanks Cobe, I’ve taken your comments on board in choosing my picks. Like yourself and James, I’ve gone for Patty T and Attaya. Also have Minjee for the win only, and at the odds of 300/1 ive taken Maria Fassi each way. Will no doubt be tempted into a wild swing at a first-round leader or two before the off. Good luck, all.
Another quite open affair. I share your thoughts on Madsen. But I think this course will favour players who can play links golf as well as those who know the course, since it's the nearest thing to a links course you'll find in that part of the world – hardly surprising, since it was designed by an Englishman over 100 years ago.
Anyone who can win an AIG at Carnoustie should be able to play this course. So, I have to go for Shibuno (almost made me rich last week, $50@40/1). My picks: 1.Shibuno 2.Boutier 3.Madsen 4.JYK. Best T10 shot outside of those players H. Green.

MY DARK 🐎 R H.SHIBUNO MINJEE & BROOKE cause Minjee is mrs.consistency & won it in 2019. Our countymate Brooke is the defending champion so hope fully plays well this week. Hinako has done well really the past couple of weeks w top 5 finishes including the great battle w Hyo Joo Kim.

A mid range dial in course here, im boring here and going for JYK. I dont know why she was so quiet at the Chevron, not exactly her style of course in my opinion. My longer odds chance, Hannah Green. The LPGA is harder now than it was 2 or 3 years ago, there are a lot more chances each week now.
Did anybody hear anything about JYKs mediocre Chevron?
Found this guys – looks like swing changes. “I didn't play well in the Chevron so I need to fix something to do my swing, so I practice hard. It was getting better and better, but I need to more practice for my swing and to perfect,” said Ko. “[My] driver distance wasn't far in the Chevron, so I practice more downswing to the ground, like push the ground and then get the powers from the ground.”
Glad I stayed away from Brooke this week, +5 round 1.

This is shaping up to be a great tournament. Can't see anyone being safe around this course–certainly with the conditions–unless they are well away in the distance. Birdies aplenty but trouble lurking around every corner.
Mingee & Boutier have started great, Patty T too; Boutier's consistency might well hold her in good stead around here, she certainly is due a win!
End of day 2 Well JYK is back in business, TS your T10 looking good!!. Im no different to where I started on thursday, JYK favoured with Hannah Green a chance at longer odds (Hannah 14/14 fairways today and no bogies). SYK was like a yoyo as expected, she will find trouble here with her aggression. Minjee is in this, putting really well. Inbee played a wise round today too. And Nasa of couse who has a record for not going away on courses like this. Saturday might make things a bit clearer, maybe we will be down to 3 to fight it out.

WOW!!! JYK an 8 on a par 4!!! Tiger Woods had the infamous 10 at the 2020 masters. These are the worst single hole scores of these two No. ones. TS- you must be glad you are on a T10 and not the win!! I think on this course Nasa wins from here, even though she is not scoring on the par 5s, she is the queen of tough par 3s and 4s on Poa. Another good round from Inbee.

It will be interesting to see how Hataoka plays this. The inclination would be to play conservatively. But when you do that you may come up short of the runway and end up in a bunker. More importantly, a conservative approach may move you away from your natural game, and that's probably the main reason why players with a big lead can falter badly.
