Thanks a lot for the tip. What a difference it made. Much more stable in my hand. That's what I was doing Long on my thumb.
What kind of golf shoes are you wearing?
Would there be signs in glove wear of an improper grip?
All his videos can be done in 45 seconds.
Took this to the course and it worked for me. I average 5 fairways per round (this year, last year, and every year) and the first time trying this tip, I hit 9 fairways (season high). Great tip, thanks.
Try out this idea… it is the short thumb idea but with no thumb. That's right no thumb! If you're right handed, take your regular grip, but put the thumb on your left hand behind your right hand. This is kind of hard to explain but you'll see how it works once you take your grip. This takes the whole thumb out of the equation. A friend of mine showed me this technique and it works! I guess it's a version of the baseball grip with interlocking or overlapping grip.
That's a huge thumb!!😳
Thank you Matt, I totally noticed that this morning when I was gripping my clubs then this golden nugget of a video came up.
I can’t wait to take your advice out on to the course on Sunday. Thanks again and keep the great instructional videos coming 👍🏻
I’m a senior golfer, and like most in my age cohort I’ve lost flexibility. While experimenting with some ways to get a bit more extension in my backswing, I switched to the long thumb. It seems to have helped me do that, and I’m also hitting the ball with more consistency. I think this is more a matter of personal preference and less of the swing killer than MrShortGame Golf argues here.
You just wanted an excuse to show off your arms 💪🏻
Oh man, so many lol moments here. Love your funny but serious videos. I'm just starting to do some golf on a Trackman 4 sim and while the irons are extremely accurate and what I'd expect – the driver is NOT so accurate. I hit fade after fade after fade… in real life, with some pulls and push slices when I mess up. But TM4 thinks I'm hitting these weird draws and pulls. I am wondering what a winter of hitting on TM4 will mean to my game when the season opens back up again. They will close the course Oct 31 no matter the weather and open when appropriate so I won't have an outdoor option until then…
Each to their own. Find what works for you.
In my case, I agree with you. If I extend that thumb, I do tighten up my grip. I always am
Having to tell myself to grip the club loosely. My tendency is to grip too tight. 👍🏼
👍❤️👊
Would this help with thumb pain on the base joint on left hand
Good advise. I’m bad golfer and use baseball or hockey style grip and my left thumb wraps around the grip Whenever I put the thumb on top of the grip no matter if it’s short/long thumb I get too tight
Maybe that short thumb contributes to your signature "cupping" at the top?
Lmao I just watched a video saying the thumb SHOULD be long lol. He claimed it provides a better hinge
Does the long thumb grip cause blisters?
Not buying it…
