BASEBALL PENALTIES EXPLAINED
Greetings baseball lovers.
Today we are back with another interesting topic that will intrigue all the baseball fanatics out there.
Penalties in baseball.
In baseball, if a player breaks any rule defined in the rulebook of the league, a penalty is given.
As a consequence, the penalty can result in an out, a base runner earning a base, or even ejection from the game.
The umpires hold complete authority to call penalties on players and coaches.
The first type of penalty is
Charging the mound.
This kind of penalty is called when the batter approaches the pitcher during or after his at-bat to initiate an attack or fight with him.
It commonly happens when the batter thinks that the pitcher deliberately was trying to attack him.
Umpires have authority here over who to penalize and the kind of penalty given.
Interference
In case of illegal disruption of play by a coach or a player in ways that are not allowed, no interference is called.
The severity of interference decides the fate of the penalty given.
Unsportsmanlike conduct
If a player or a coach commits an action that is prohibited in the game, this type of penalty is called.
There are various actions that are strictly prohibited in the play
1. Instigating spectators to achieve a specific response.
2. Deliberately committing an action that might cause the pitcher to balk.
3. Deliberately engage in physical contact with an umpire.
4. Interact with spectators or the players of the opposite team for no fair reason.
5. If a fielder purposely disrupts the batter’s line of vision or distracts him.
6. Resisting leaving the field in case of an ejection.
7. Aggressively disapprove of the umpire’s decision even after the warning.
