📝 Description
Test Valley Open Water Swimming is offering safe swimming at two swimming sites on the Fullerton Estate in the Test Valley near Stockbridge.
As keen open water swimmers, Iain and Tom are excited to offer two separate swim experiences:
A lake swim that offers a 200m swim loop.
A river swim that offers a timed swim, upstream against the current, below a weir.
Water is tested weekly to ensure safe, healthy swimming.
All swimmers must wear a wetsuit and a brightly coloured swim hat for all swim session.*
All swimmers must complete an Orientation session before either the lake swim or river swim sessions can be booked.
All sessions are coached/observed by Iain or Tom.
Post swim protocols for cold water swimming are vigorously encouraged.
These details will be included in a booking confirmation email.
*Skins swimmers can be accommodated after an Orientation swim has been completed. Orientation swims do need to be completed in a wetsuit unless agreed with the swim staff at time of booking.
Coaching – What coaching is offered and by whom?
Iain Derrick – a fully insured “Institute of Swimming / Swim England” qualified level 2 swim teacher, waterpolo and open water swim coach – does most of the coaching.
🌍 How can you help protect our eco-systems.
As an open water swimmer, you can do your bit to help protect the eco-systems in our fresh water ponds, lakes, rivers and streams.
You should to ensure that your swimming equipment does not transfer organisms from one water way to another. You can help do that by following these simple guidelines.
CHECK, CLEAN & DRY
* CHECK your equipment and clothing for live organisms – particularly in areas that are damp or hard to inspect.
* CLEAN and wash all equipment, footwear and clothes thoroughly as soon as you exit the water. Use hot water when possible. If you do come across any organisms, leave them at the water body where you found them.
* DRY all equipment and clothing – some species can live for many days in moist conditions.
