John Hughes Golf – The First 3 Feet of Your Putt

The science is there to support the need for you to start all putts on your intended target line. And if you keep your putt rolling on the intended line the first 3 feet of every putt outside of 8 feet, your chances of making more putts dramatically increase.

With the assistance of a simple homemade prop you can make for less than $5, you can become a better putter.

The putting stick drill is as simple as rolling a putt continually on a 3 foot stick or ruler. It’s harder than it looks at first. But practicing the putting stick drill will improve your aiming of the putter face to your intended target. This in turn will improve your ability to hit the sweet spot of your putter every time you putt. This drill will also assist with better positioning of your eyes over or slightly inside the ball. And finally it will assist with understanding if your putter face is open or closed at the point of impact.

Try this drill from 5 feet or more, with straight and sloping putts. You’ll find that if you can keep every putt rolling towards your intended target the first 3 feet of the putt, your conversion rate of putts made will instantly improve.
