(Hitting Progression #4 of 4):The final Drill that completes my Swing Plane Workshop that has been VERY Successful!
By the end of this progression the player has been introduced:
1.) to a successful Swing Plane or Attack Angle
2.) keeping hands inside and quick to the ball with the principle of knob the ball.
3.) taught to stay through the baseball longer, proper extension
3.) and finally to attack the inner half of the baseball in their chase to create backspin through extension.
It’s important to understand that whenever we move from isolated drills: to Tee work, to front toss, to overhand toss, to Hack Attack, and finally to live cuts, the player will often develop negative swing adaptations as a way to compensate with increasing difficulty and velocity. This is why it is important to work these drills and monitor the player as they progress from Hitting off the Tee to a ball coming at them with increasing velocity. If a player goes from this progression straight to the field without much work in the in-between stages, their form will likely digress. Work up to BP on the field like levels, in order to get to the next Level, near mastery at the previous level should be completed in order to see best results.
