0:00 Hey there, I’m Vaughan and welcome to Golf Beginner World. This is the situation: You’re standing over the ball and you have a terrible feeling. You just know that you are going to hit the ball fat. So what happens? You hit the ball fat or you compensate by pulling the arms – the old chicken wing – and you top the ball to the other side of the golf course. We all know that feeling -I know that feeling and I’m sure you’ve been in that situation before.

0:36 I want to help you, right now. I want to give you a method that will help you in these situations. It will save you, it will take the fear away from this shot. Ok so all you got to do is the following. Normal stance – when I say normal stance, I mean the feet pretty close together. That’s good. Left foot turned open. Open Stance. I like to play the ball in the middle, but if you’d like to play the ball further forwards to get the ball higher or further back in your stance because the lie is not so great, that’s fine, do that. So when I take my stance, my shoulders are basically parallel to the ball-target line.

1:24 OK, now the swing begins. Start on plane. Make sure that your hands are over the line of the feet and that the club head is in front of the feet. I’m talking about the start of the backswing. You decide how far you want to swing back. And then please, as you would, as you must, when you do your full swing, start on plane. While you’re rotating, drop your hands and arms. That’s very important.

1:50 But now, this is the point, this is what is going to help you. After you’ve started well and started the downswing correctly, I want you to think CUT. Really swing to the left. You notice I’m not releasing. I’m holding slightly. Swing to the left – that has great advantages: You will hit the ball and then the ground. You see, when I swing to the left I hit the ground later. If I swing to the right I hit the ground earlier. You’ll accelerate, you’ll have a far better contact and you will impose a bit of backswing on the ball which is good.

2:34 You might now want to say to me : Vaughan; I don’t want to slice my ball. That’s the point. You can’t slice from 30, 40, 50 yards out. If you really do feel as though that you have an open club face, all you need to do is strengthen your grip slightly by turning your left hand slightly to the right. Then it’s fine. Really what’s important – I’ve got a sand wedge by the way – is that the club face points towards the target in impact. You can swing to the left and the ball will fly straight.

3:07 Ok, I’ve spoken enough. Let me hit a few balls. I’m really thinking, swing to the left, which allows me to accelerate through the ball. And it’s really great because you get a bit of spin out of the shot. And try this out a few times. You will really feel confident about the pitch shot. You’ll start loving this shot. It’s so important for your golf game, because these shots are the make or break shots for your round. Thanks for watching. I really look forward to seeing you again. I’d love a thumbs up. Please share this video with your friends – if they are beginners as well.
