First to run from Badwater to Mt. Whitney – Al Arnold in 1977

In 1977, Albert L. Arnold (1928-2017), of Walnut Creek California was the first to run solo from Badwater Basin in Death Valley (-282 feet) to the top of Mount Whitney (14,505 feet) in one go — the lowest point to the highest point in the lower 48 United States. He accomplished it in 84 hours and was the first person inducted into the Badwater Hall of Fame.
