FLC Quang Binh Golf Links is an ambitious golf course built on the most beautiful area with semi-desert terrain, 6km of coastline and swamps, pine trees and dunes everywhere. FLC Quang Binh Golf course also offers water hazards like lakes and straits as well as white sand dunes and coastal vegetation to create the perfect challenge for golfers.
The project is expected to feature 10 golf courses with actual 180 holes. Two available courses at the moment are the Forest Dunes and the Ocean Dunes.
🌟 The Forest Dunes
The Forest Dunes is the first of 10 golf courses of the FLC Quang Binh complex. It is designed by Schmidt-Curley and lies on an entirely white sand area with natural sand dunes that can reach 40 meters of elevation change. What makes the course stand out is the extraordinary drainage, abounding fairway movement and the sharp edges between the waste areas and fairways. All those elements create a visually pleasing scenery with the contrast of color are presented everywhere: the white sand, the green paspalum grass, dark green casuarina pines and the crystal color of the lakes. In addition, the fairways are wide and forgiving, the same goes with the sandy terrain and the pine straw areas. Apart from this, the landing areas are large and friendly so minor miscalculated shots are acceptable.
The Forest Dunes has only 4 bunkers, the rest is waste areas. Moreover, massive greens are full of undulation and fairway run-ups. Some putting surfaces have catchment areas, others have backstops. The strategy to score well relies on how golfers approach the target as wind is a major obstacle of the course.
The course offers great challenges as narrow fairways and precise putting targets are very common. One exciting hole is the 17th which is surrounded by sands. The green is hidden from the tee and gives a feeling of miniscule, especially when the wind comes into play. In addition to that, there are some excellent par 4 as well such as hole 7 featuring sandy pine scrub and twin push up green areas.
🌟 The Ocean Dunes
The Ocean Dunes is the second of the 10 courses in FLC Quang Binh Golf Links Course. The course has a routing that leads to the sea on two par 3 and then turns back inland. Furthermore, the terrain has a rugged look with sandy expanses incorporated with native grass and pine needles scattered around. Most holes provide elevated tees and greens that offer the best view of the ocean. Additionally, greens are wide and have large cut-outs to divert water off the putting surface. The front nine features subtle greens and fairways elevations with a routing that flows from hole to hole. The back nine, on other hand, is favored with prime land and 2 beach viewpoints.
The Ocean Dunes features some exciting holes for golfers. Hole 13 par 4 is one example, whose routing leads inland toward a obscured, angled green. There is also a channel down the side to trap weaker balls. However, golfers that can take a shot over the ridge to the green will definitely feel awesome. Another example is hole 18 with a green wedged between a beach-style waste bunker and a pop-up dune.
