22-year-old Irish Brendan Lawlor has been one of the golf world’s most recent sensations after becoming the first player with disabilities to compete in a European Tour event.
He could be seen teeing off and putting golf balls in the hole at Carton House Golf Club in Maynooth on Wednesday.
Lawlor was born with a rare genetic condition called Ellis-van Creveld syndrome, a short limb dwarfism that prevents him from developing knuckles on top of his fingers.
“I just want to keep flying the flag for disability golf and keep making that pathway for other players and disability athletes to get the same opportunities I’m getting and I think it’s going to happen, there is so much recognition about the game now,” said Lawlor.
Lawlor’s future ambitions include being able to represent his country at the Paralympics once golf makes it to the games.
