While rotation does not exist as the sole element in our golf swing that we must pay attention to, it does hold huge importance in regards to how powerful and precise our shots are executed in play.
George Gankas golf training, known to the world as the GG Swing Method, understands that all players have unique strengths and weaknesses that play out in everything that they do on the golf course.
Practitioners of the GG Swing Method credit these George Gankas golf videos with helping to craft their own style of play, while achieving consistent results that any golfer would be happy to obtain.
Our golf swing rotation proves to be one of the most interesting elements in the sport, as achieving a powerful shot often has very little to do with the size of the player swinging the golf club.
Rotation: Size DOESN’T Matter!
In the sport of golf, our swing rotation often makes up for any shortcomings found in our size and stature.
The need for huge, muscular physiques does not factor much into golf, as the vast amount of power found in a golf swing originates in a player’s ability to rotate their bodies effectively.
There are countless examples of golfers active in the PGA Tour that are under 6 foot tall and able to crush the golf ball just as deeply as their taller tour mates.
The commonalities found between larger players and their small counterparts manifests in their shared ability to harness rotational speed effectively, unleashing their natural power during their golf swing.
The Truth About Rotational Power and Speed
Many novice golfers view their golf swing as simply swinging the club faster or harder in order to obtain increases in these areas, rather than studying and perfecting the rotational forces at work naturally through calculated body motion.
As the foundation of every golf swing ever taken, our rotation produces the needed speed to achieve our goals, but only after the player has trained to rotate their bodies properly and efficiently.
Starting in our shoulders, rotation takes shape during the backswing as much of the swing’s progress rests on our ability to turn our shoulders enough to point our back towards that target while in the top portion of the swing.
Working within our own ability, many will find that some golfers are simply more agile than others, which leads many players to turning only as far as possible but still achieving the needed level of rotation in their shoulders at backswing.
After completing our backswing, we must refocus our attention to the lower part of our body.
The rotation in our hips becomes the engine in our golf swing immediately following our backswing, causing our lower body to turn into our intended target, with our upper body now taking a backseat to the direct rotational action.
Never Overdo Swing Rotation
Many golfers become aware of the pure energy that exists in their natural body rotation and end up over swinging and ruining their entire shot.
Some golfers may even run the risk of injury by overworking their back, losing balance or straining muscles in an attempt to add extra force to their swings.
It will not matter how much force can be added through rotation if the entire swing becomes imbalanced through turning our shoulders or hips too far.
Balance acts as an invaluable element to every golf swing, as even the slightest alteration will ultimately manifest in the end results of our shots.
Players must work within their own bodily abilities to optimize their natural rotation without exceeding their individual body limitations and throwing the entire golf swing out of balance, resulting in worse returns that experienced without any adjustment to their swing.
