Dad Tries His Callaway MAVRIK MAX Irons at Rooster Run Golf Club

A spin around Rooster Run Golf Club with Dad as he tests out his first new set of clubs in 24 YEARS! After being fit for Callaway MAVRIK MAX irons during his first ever professional club fitting he and I were both excited to spend the day together testing them out.

Despite a big trash talk game in the parking lot about beating me “fair and square” with his new clubs, he insisted that I play from the tips. (Black Tees 7001 Yds. 74.2/135)

One of the biggest gifts my dad has given me was a love and appreciation for the game of golf. I am naturally competitive and he taught me a game that would make my dreams come true and haunt my nightmares with only one opponent, ME. I have played golf all over the United States and no matter how (im)perfect the course I’m on my biggest opponent is always myself.

I am so lucky to have had a father who was willing to take me out to the driving range and later the course while insisting that we make it fun — even though he (used to) always beat me. When I would throw a fit on the course after a bad shot, he would remind me that it is a game. When I became an early adopter of social distancing from my driver after slicing the ball onto the next fairway, he’d remind me to knock it off. For his part, he hits his share of bad shots too with the most dramatic outburst being limited to occasional muttered curse words and a downcast glance.

My dad taught and continues to teach me to be a better man, on and off the course. He leads by example.

Now that Dad is retired and I work for myself, I’ve been lucky to be able to spend more time with him playing the game that we both love so much. Even though both of my siblings can play, it is usually just the two of us out on the course. Its always a special time for me to get to hang out with my dad.

As someone who is not able to play contact sports, I didn’t realize at the time what a true gift it was to learn a game that is a true life-long sport.

I am so excited to wear out his new clubs with him over the NEXT 24 years.

Congrats on the new clubs Dad, you deserve them.
