From How to Break Par to how to Break 80 – Way of the playa Good Bad and Ugly

In this second part of my round at Blue Star, we discover how to break 80 after setting our sights on breaking par. Lots of tips along the way though that you can pay attention to!

It’s important to know ourselves and put ourselves in the best position to have a great day on the course.

For me there are a few things that are vital for a good score:
1. No scheissen poefie due to eating too much chili or any form of “dirty” food the night before. My sotmach health is not the best and if it flares up, so does the driver. It was okay for Blue Star.

2. SLEEP. This is my biggest one. If I am tired, in a cooler climate, I can get through a round fine but if I haven’t slept enough (at least 6 hours) in a hot place like Thailand and here Kanchanburi – the 2nd hottest place in Thailand – I struggle with the back nine.

3. Taking a break at the wrong time in the wrong way. If I set down for more than a minute, and especially in an airconditioned area, I will lose that rhythm and momentum I gained while being out there in the warmth. My lower back and in general, all muscles will cool down and it’s almost like starting over. This round, we took a long 45 minute lunch because we were on holiday spending time together.

But in the end, I shot 79, and really, it could have been a 70, or 69 I guess. But it wasn’t and I still enjoyed myself. Even more than that, I was spending time with my dad which is more valuable as we get older.

Nothing is so serious that it should be held onto forever. I have many more rounds to play…so we packed the car and went back to the hotel, had a nap and hit the night market in Kanchanaburi town before making our way to Royal Ratchaburi the next day stopping for Thai style coffee at three places along the way sampling the delicious caramelly chocolatey brown stuff from paper cups.

Life goes on and next round, next shot, next thought process can be the one that makes that eureka moment happen for you and you smash through that barrier.
