Matt Hill Interview: Golf Psychology Strategies of Tour Champions

Matt Hill has a worthy list of achievements in his golf career including a college performance in 2009 that ranks as one of the greatest seasons in amateur golf history that launched him to number two in the world amateur rankings.

More recently Matt took his first Canadian Tour (PGA Tour Canada) victory at the Dakota Dunes Casino Open in Saskatoon Saskatchewan.

In the first four Canadian Tour (PGA Tour Canada) events he has played this year, he is a combined fifty-two under par! Wow. Not surprising, he currently leads the money list.

I interviewed Matt about his thoughts on golf psychology and the tools he uses to make him successful. Matt’s approach to the mental side of the game is very straight forward and simple. That in itself is a great lesson.

In this interview you will hear about how specific and time sensitive his goals are from both a career and daily perspective which really gives him clarity and focus.

Matt takes us through his use of visualization, his pre-shot routine, and also talks about the attitude that he feels has contributed to his recent success.

Part of that attitude is being carefree about the outcome and the results.

But how do you actually do that? How do you become more carefree? A challenging question but it seems to me that Matt Hill is confident right now. That confidence allows him to be carefree.

Although he doesn’t say it directly, it seems that Matt knows the results will take care of themselves. If one particular shot doesn’t come off as planned, it doesn’t matter, or as he says to himself “whatever”.

He’s focused, and patient.

He feels prepared and he has worked hard. He knows what he wants and he also knows that what he is doing is making him a better player. Now he is seeing results.
