Golf Lesson: Factoring Slopes & Elevation Changes

Factoring Slopes in Golf: understanding how slope factors into your shot and club selection. Elevation can play a major factor into how long or short a shot actually plays. In this video tip, PGA Professional Todd Kolb talks about how you need to adjust your shot based on elevation change.

Hey golfers, PGA Professional Todd Kolb with USGolfTV, and today I want to give you a tip on understanding how elevation change can impact a golf shot. Now here’s a classic example of where that can take place. This particular hole on my yardage book is 280 yards to the creek.

Now normally I can hit a driver all day long and I don’t have to worry about my golf ball getting all the way to the creek. But the reality is elevation can largely impact a golf shot. So this particular situation, the tee box is highly elevated, the fairway is down below. So the reality of it is that this shot is going to play a lot shorter.

So any time you are faced with a shot on the golf course, be aware of change in elevation. If you are hitting down, obviously the shot is going to play a lot shorter; if you are hitting to an elevated green, the shot is going to play a little bit longer. These things can really impact your score and impact a golf shot. If you want more great tips on how to improve your golf game, be sure to visit www.USGolfTV.com!
