Putter Torque & DynAlign Soft End Range Putting Grip

Both face balanced and toe balanced putters create torque when put into motion, and that torque has an influence on both the path of the putter and the grip pressure needed to control face alignment. A golfer can counteract torque created by a putter but the correction can effect both direction and distance control, and can be difficult to perform in pressure situations.

There are putter designs that do not create torque, and this type of putter does not require a golfer to make correction of face alignment on the backstroke or after transition to the forward stroke.

When using a putter that creates torque, golfers typically increase their grip pressure in order to prevent the twisting effect of torque from causing the putter face to be misaligned at impact. Increased grip pressure can have a negative effect on a golfer’s ability to sense the amount of force needed in a stroke.

Putters that do not create torque allow a golfer to maintain lighter grip pressure for the most sensitive feel for distance control, and do not require force to counteract torque.

Golfers use various grip styles to maintain stability of a putter, and counteract the effects of torque, during a stroke. A traditional thumbs down the top style grip is encouraged by the flat top section found on the most popular putter grips. Other grip styles, such as lead hand low, claw, pencil, and arm lock grips are also widely used. All of these grip styles have vulnerability to random joint motion during a stroke.

The grip technique which is most resistant to random joint motion is the DynAlign soft end range of motion grip. This grip reduces slack in major joints in the wrist, elbow, shoulder, hips, and knees, to provide for a putting stroke that travels on a stable path while resisting any torque found in a putter design.

The DynAlign grip also allows for the lightest grip pressure so a golfer has optimum feel in the hands for distance control.

A combination of a putter that does not create torque with a soft end range of motion grip provides the optimum stroke stability and soft grip sensitivity needed for a players best distance control.
