Lile and Maxey Lead A-State in First Round of Kapolei Invitational

KAPOLEI, Hawaii (10/29/24) – Jake Lile and Jack Maxey each carded 2-under par rounds to lead the Arkansas State men’s golf team in the opening round of the Kapolei Invitational Tuesday at Kapolei Golf Club.

Lile turned in his scorecard featuring an eagle and five birdies to offset five bogeys for the 2-under par 70 round on the 7,001-yard, par-72 course. Maxey drained four birdies against two bogeys on his 2-under par 70 round and the pair are tied for eighth, four shots back of the individual leader. Playing as an individual, Chris Somerfield was 1-under par 71 to tie for 13th. Milan Reed gave A-State four players at par or better finishing the opening round at even-par to rank 24th. Thomas Schmidt and Jake Wallis were 1-over par 73 to tie for 32nd.

As a team, the Red Wolves registered a 3-under par 285 for their eighth par or better round of the season in 10 rounds played. At 3-under par, A-State is tied with host Hawaii for third, three shots back of Texas State for the lead. Utah Valley is second at 4-under par while Utah Tech (-2), Miami (-1), San Diego (-1), St. John’s (+1), Butler (+6), Army (+7), Lamar (+7) and British Columbia (+7) round out the top 10 and ties in the 15-team field.
