Bears Conclude 2024 Fall Slate
CARMEL – The California men’s golf team’s 2024 fall slate concluded Tuesday with an 11th-place finish at the Preserve Golf Club Collegiate. Cal could not overcome a pair of difficult rounds – a first-round 299 and third-round 302 – on the way to a 22-over-par effort across the two-day, 54-hole tournament (299-285-302—886).
Kuangyu (Tony) Chen, the tournament’s reigning individual medalist, was Cal’s top finisher with a 1-under-par 215 and a tie for 16th. Chen wrapped up a 3-under-par 69 second round – the Bears’ best single round of the tournament – Tuesday morning and briefly moved into the top five individually with a pair of birdies on the front nine of his third round, but eventually fell back with a 4-over-par 74.
Ziqin (Eric) Zhou posted the Cal lineup’s only other under-par round of the tournament with a 1-under 71 in the second round on the way to tying for 39th (76-71-75—222). Sophomore Sihao Cong, playing as an individual, tied for 31st with a 4-over 220.
Cal’s former Pac-12 Conference counterpart UCLA (-23) captured the tournament title, while Colorado State’s Jay Pabin (-9) was crowned as individual medalist.
