  1. Wrensted could have popped it over the top to Glendinning at the end – wouldn't be the first player to panic in that situation, though. There were literally seconds left so I guess he felt he had to take the shot.

  2. Astonishing what John Northey achieved with a very ordinary list. Of course, a couple of those that played in this game went on to be all-Australians (Lyon, Stynes) but overall, Northey had very little to work with. Compare the Hawthorn side they played in the grand final: Langford, Mew, Schwab, Brereton, Dunstall was their spine, and they had additional superstars on every line: Ayers, Tuck, Platten, Dippierdomenico, Buckenara, etc. Northey the best coach never to win a flag. In this game the moves he made at half time (Wight forward, Stretch onto Langdon, who had ten score involvements in the first half) were brilliant.
