THE FIELD: The Lions are one of 10 teams competing at The Judson this week. In-state schools Jacksonville State, UAB and Alabama State will also be in the tournament. The rest of the field includes Western Illinois, Belmont, Lamar, Tarleton State, Mississippi College and host school Southern Miss. UNA is one of six to return from last season.

THE COURSE: Hattiesburg Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course and underwent a redesign in 1999 by Max Maxwell and Nathan Crace, ASGCA. For four decades up until 1993, the course hosted the PGA Tour’s Magnolia Classic and today continues to host semi-professional, collegiate and prep tournaments. The course spans roughly 6,900 yards.

ORDER OF EVENTS: The Lions will take a practice round Sunday afternoon. Rounds 1 and 2 will begin Monday at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. The final round will begin Tuesday at 8 a.m. Starting holes have not been revealed.

LAST TIME OUT: The Lions were in Jonesboro, Ark. for the Lady Red Wolves Classic two weeks ago, finishing 10th out of 17 teams. True freshman Sirichaya Chanpen had her best collegiate tournament to date, leading the Lions with a 16th place overall finish at six-over-par 222 with a pair of 73s on the card the final two rounds. Two strokes behind her in 23rd was senior Hannah Dees. UNA edged Murray State by one stroke on the team leaderboard while also defeating Atlantic Sun Conference opponents Austin Peay and West Georgia.

FAMILIAR FOES: UNA has already played with four of the teams in The Judson earlier this season, including Southern Miss and UAB at the Hoover Invite in September, Mississippi College two weeks ago in Jonesboro and Jacksonville State in the Tiger Classic at Clemson to open the season in August. UNA was only five strokes behind JSU in that tournament. The Lions finished ahead of both UAB and Mississippi College in the first encounter.

HATTIESBURG REWIND: In 2023, the Lions competed in Mississippi for the first time ever at The Judson. The final round took place on Halloween day. UNA tied for seventh alongside Central Michigan with a stroke score of 907, defeating UAB by eight strokes in ninth. UNA’s best round was the opening round, as top duo Allycia Gan and returning senior Jahnavi Prakhya both shot an even-par 72 in the first round. Gan went on to a top-10 finish at three-over, carding a one-under in the final round. Prakhya finished T27th.

WE MEET AGAIN: The teams that will play in the Judson for the second straight season include UNA, Southern Miss, Tarleton State, Belmont, UAB and Western Illinois. Central Arkansas won the event last season, while USM finished second. Tarleton State was just eight strokes ahead of UNA in fourth, followed by Belmont in sixth. The Lions were within six strokes of Belmont.

SAME FIVE: The Lions will close the fall season with the same five players that played in Arkansas two weeks ago — but in a different order. Prakhya and Dees will play the course again, while Chanpen, redshirt sophomore Kerigan Klauber and true freshman Olivia Whittle will play HCC for the first time.
