Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.

I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!

On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

  1. I had to search a while during a fitting last spring for irons with “normal” lofts. Ping Blueprints/i230 combo set, 33* 7 iron.

  2. They need to make them stronger every year to back up their claims of "longer hitting irons".
It's a scam, always has been.

  3. Despite manufacturers claiming they decrease lofts to compensate for the low and rear COG making the ball easier to launch the issue is that rear and low COG only gets you so far. Loft still matters and below about 24 to 25 degrees, or a 6 iron in many sets like this, the average sub 90 MPH iron swinger doesn't generate enough speed to use anything weaker than their 7 iron or maybe the 6. Sure, they might get the ball in the air but the gaps become compressed. As a few others here have mentioned in a strong lofted set such as this ad others like it the st makeup should really start at 6 iron and add an extra wedge rather than an extra club in the form of a 5 iron on the long end that most don't hit more a few yards farther than their 6 iron as the loft dips to around 21 or 22 degrees. So, yeah, if the 6 iron 24 or 25 degrees then the set should be 6 through GW and AW. At least get the set up to 50 degrees on the short end. A traditionally lofted 8 club set would typically get you 24 thru 52 degrees or a seven club set 24 thru 47 or 48 degrees. That allowed you the option to add a matching gap wedge or to use specialty gap and sand wedges while on the long end you could usually get a matching 21 degree iron if you could hit it or you could start your long end with a 7 wood or hybrid. I don't care what you call the club but at least give my a loft spread that doesn't force me into something too low to be useful and then I have to discard an iron I was forced to buy but don't want to or can't use. And don't force me to buy more than two additional wedges to get through sand wedge.

  4. I don't really like the shinny chrome look because as an x-welder I get wield flash from the sun hitting the club at address. Then I can't see very well with that little dot in my vision. Think of getting a flash spot when having your picture taken with a camera flash bulb.

  5. You can’t compare your 7 iron to the these 7 irons cause you hit them further. You should be comparing the spin rates on your clubs that go a similar distance

  6. Typically Irons are measured and numbered by the spin rate they produce. That spin rate is way too low for a 7 Iron.

  7. If you can get over the numbering issue… like your pitching wedge is actually a 9 iron and 7 iron is a 6 iron then they seem like good irons.

  8. I'm sure these are solid high quality irons, look real good too,,,, but those five irons are coming off low in trajectory even with Rick's club head speed and delivery. Basically an old problematic 3 iron with a different number for casual/recreational golfers.

  9. I have the old callaway razr x forged and the 7 is spec’d at 35* haha. These strong lofts are crazy.

  10. The issue is with these strong lofts it just requires a 5th wedge and then it defeats the purpose of hitting it further because now the 7 iron is in the 6 iron position of the bag

  11. Yes lofts are too strong. Bring back higher launching yet higher lofted clubs like the 718 T-mb. Spin, forgiveness, descent angle.

  12. Golfers are lying to themselves if they pull out a 7 iron and think they hit their 7 iron 200 yards. You're lying to yourself, it's not a 7 iron.

  13. Nothing but manufacturers running out of technology to make people think they are hitting the ball further. When you create lofts like this it creates a mess for your wedge spacing. I was a ping custom fitter for years and its funny to hear guys talk about launch angles and descent to justify these stronger lofts. Its a simple marketing technique to deceive consumers. Before the loft bumps they were also making iron shafts longer to generate more speed which isnt a good idea.

To keep it simple your spin rate should match the number iron on your club. 7 iron should be 7000rpm, 5 iron should 5000 rpm and so on. When you dont see those numbers you know they are messing around with lofts.

  14. I feel like Rick hits his PW strange. How do you hit 7 195 carry and PW 140 in the same iron set? 55 yard difference but only two clubs in between
