You Can Save More Strokes By Managing This on the Golf Course

In this live demonstration, Todd Kolb shows us how to manage your game even when not every swing is perfect. Todd will walk you through the crucial decision-making process on the golf course, from club selection to adjusting your strategy based on course conditions and your current lie. This video is perfect for senior golfers who want to improve their shot selection and understand how to maintain a positive mindset on the course.

Starting with a par 3, 156-yard hole, Todd analyzes elevation changes and wind direction to make the best club selection. He shares his process of selecting between a seven and eight iron and aiming for the middle of the green.

When the tee shot lands a little short, Todd demonstrates how to recover with a chip from the thick rough. He explains his thought process and the technique needed to hit the ball high and soft, managing to save the hole despite the challenging conditions.

Finally, Todd provides insight into handling pressure moments on the green. He shows how to give yourself a pep talk, read the putt, and maintain an optimistic attitude.

Throughout the video, Todd offers senior golfers valuable advice on managing expectations, golf course management, and effective club use. So, if you want to play a round under par or just beat your buddies out of a $2 Nassau, this video will equip you with the skills and mindset to do so. Remember, golf is not about hitting every shot perfect; it’s about navigating the game with the right approach. So let’s head over to hole 18 and keep the game going!

  1. All great "course management" advice Todd! When I play a round of golf, I try to manage the course just as you have shown in this video. When I am presented with a shot between clubs, I will probably select the stronger club and make a easier swing. Always enjoy and learn from your input Todd! Keep up the good work!!!

  2. Great tips about managing game on the course. I like the self pep talk you mentioned – it’s kinda easy to get frustrated at myself about expectations especially when I make a couple of good shots up to green but flub a chip shot or 3-putt – it can carry over to next hole. Also, I like that you kept the video to less than 7 minutes and got your points across (I see other instructors that bloviate and pontificate on & on & on & on…). Enjoying your stuff from Alabama.

  3. I agree your tee shot was a little chunky? 1)What if you had hit 7 iron instead and went to the back?, and 2)What would you hit if rough wasn't so heavy on your 2ND shot in your video after chunking the 8 iron?

  4. so on a 400 yd par 4, i'm better off in the fairway 180 yds out (with my maxvert), than 160 yds out in the rough (with my TSI)?
