  1. We normally blame it on broadcasters n money but what about cricket boards of so many countries like Pak, SL, WI, SA, Bangladesh??? They've destroyed quality of Cricket in all formats with their Corruption n mismanagement. I blame them n not money or t20 cricket.

  2. The obvious answer is of course to get rid of The Hundred (another format which isn't needed) but are Sky going to commit to being ballsy around that? Nope.

  3. I can envisage a time in the not so distant future when England and Austalia play only an exhibition style Ashes series with invitational players simply because the rest of the cricket world seems to have lost interest in nurturing and maintaining the format. Even England and Austalia wont be able to maintain the structure of a test match team if they have no one to play

  4. Yes, Test cricket is by far the best form of the game. I don’t bother watching the other forms – they are just too knockabout.

  5. The problem is cricket is so expensive to play. Especially in Australia. I never got the privilege to play as a child.

  6. Getting money into the system with a lot of potential resources unused. 20 years ago you were able to listen to Cricket around the world, as BBC TMS was available online. Rights infringed and today we are at a point when you do not live in the TOP 12 FM (+ a couple) countries, you have no (legal) chance to see or listen to the games anymore. Set up a central marketing tool for Test-Cricket outside the main nations who earn good TV money with it and sell reasonable priced yearly subscriptions. NFL earned a lot of following by having their matches sold on apps abroad, it might not gain money quickly, but those who might start to follow might bring in money to all formats in the long form.

  7. You can't blame the players for following the money. One injury can end a career. The governing bodies need to align and ensure the compensation is distributed better to encourage test match growth and survival.

  8. Give Test playimg status to Netherlands and The USA, Divide the World Test championship into two tiers. Put Afg, Zim & Ire alongwith USA & Netherlands into tier two, make each team play 2 tests against the each & every other four every year in an home & away format, select the top 2 from this tier 2 and in the upcoming WTC Cycle, put them in tier 1 in place of worst performing 2 of tier 1. And kepp repeating this cycle every WTC.

And there you go, not only you are making the new 5 teams strong in terms of technique and ability to hold on to their wickets, bowl good spells for longer, but also you are strengthening the cricket audience & infrastructure in the new 5 territories and making the Test cricketing pool bigger for future time to come.

Also you will incentivise teams in tier 1 to play better as to avoid the bottom two position. Also introduce a bronze medal match in England itself for teams finishing 3rd & 4th just before the WTC final.

Among these if any two or three teams starts getting good success in tests, then your top tests team pool expands from 4-5 currently to 7-8 and then test cricket will be truly alive once again. 😀😀

  9. As a lover of test cricket and first class cricket more generally, the biggest struggle for me is the time it gets played. It is difficult to watch while working a full time job. While I personally prefer daytime tests I think there should be more day/night games

  10. Disagree whole heartedly. Test cricket is not dying. India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand still love test cricket. Nasser is probably right about it being a generation game

  11. stop telling fans what they want, we want test matches, t20 is simply more convenient for sponsorships.. that's why u keep bringing it up.. stop!

  12. Cricket is not cricket if test match cricket goes. I love seeing batsmen getting triple centuries. Bazball and Tuck box have saved the soul of cricket.

  13. So here is my idea of a solution
Permanent member of the ICC get automatic qualification to world cups, so make a requirement of that Permanent Membership be that a country HAS to play a certain amount of test matches in say a 3 or 4 year period.
That allows countries to work out their own schedule but also forces structures in each country to focus on Test Cricket

  14. T20 and ODI money should be used to support Test cricket.

Unfortunately, England, Australia, India are capable of packing out stadiums. I fear Test cricket will die in the other countries as hardly anyone turns up.

  15. Despite Sky's excellent coverage, I'm afraid it has definitely played a part in cricket's declining relevance, especially with members of the general public. In the 1970s and 1980s, even people who didn't know cricket from croquet would have heard of the Boycotts, the Bothams, the Greigs, etc, etc. After the public enthusiasm for that incredible 2005 Ashes series-the last ever series on free view TV, of course- Sky's monopoly has turned Test cricket into a minority pastime for cricket obsessives, a rather more popular alternative to other British minority pastimes, such as morris dancing. It doesn't matter how good Sky's coverage is; it's enriched top players and cricket's administrators, but has completely destroyed cricket's not insignificant place in the national conversation. Which living English cricketer has the highest national profile? Andrew Flintoff, who retired nearly 15 years ago!! Enough said.

  16. I’ll never forget watching the ashes with my old boy seeing Mitch Johnson tear England up you only get that in test cricket.
