  1. The downside to these clubs, you cannot get fitted for the shaft that is optimized for your swing and the head type. Other than that, these are nice clubs.

  2. Two years ago when I finally bought a new set of clubs, I did consider Takomo. I actually considered some of Takomo’s competitors as well. But ultimately, I went with Titleist. I was replacing my Mizuno MP-32’s, well I still have them so I didn’t actually replace them, but you know what I mean. Two years ago Takomo didn’t have as many models as today, maybe I would have gone a different route. But I based my choice without price being the primary factor. Debt be dammed (spelled wrong on purpose), I went T100s and T200 combo. But Takomo makes a solid product.

  3. Great point about the R&D that the big boys put into golf clubs. My son is 16, scratch, and has insane club head speed. He uses the 301CB – beautiful clubs. Such a soft feel and when he as a good player hits them, the sound is just amazing.

  4. Peter Finch review these years ago n he's very honest. Just cause ur the last guy in the work to review them ur one of the only honest reviews…. 🤔

  5. Your comments on price due to R&D at the end would be valid, but the clubs have gone up so much but I feel like they have betrayed us expecting us to pay $5000 for a second clubs all the way through with a bag is insane. These companies are showing that they could do it for half if they wanted.

  6. The only negative in reality is the lack of custom fit capabilities. The price is great but still a good chunk of change for irons you aren’t 100% sure are suited to you. Obviously can get fitted for other clubs and then get these but that’s the only risk for me

  7. Although while I agree about the R&D the other brands put into the developing their irons. I bet that's just a fraction of the cost they put into sponsoring named players. Didn't Taylormade pay $100m contract to Rory over 10 years a while back? I'd be massively shocked if they spent a fraction of that on R&D.

  8. After a lot of research and consideration, I bought a set of the 201 CBs about 2.5 years ago and have had absolutely no regrets.
These are awesome clubs and totally agree with you about the feel.
Someone described them as "buttery smooth" which has since become a catch phrase between my playing friends.
    Love your work Rick.

    Cheers,
    Dave in NZ

  9. Shout out to Kwon, Taco and the NZ boys. I bought the 101ts and they've been pretty good. I got them with KS C-Taper lites in there. Would prefer more shaft options if I'm being honest. I wanted the $-tapers. The only issue I have is with the 5iron. It feels a bit clicky. I think the hot melt in there is not quite right…

  10. I was going to go with Cleveland Zipcore XL irons for an inexpensive forgiving iron set. You talked me into the Takomo 101’s. Placing my order now.

  11. I bought the 101T irons, but I had to trade them in. No matter where I hit them on the face, it felt like an off-center hit. My theory: The 101/101T Takomo irons are fabricated from castings (cast = harder metals, usually) welded together. There is nothing to dampen vibrations; no goo inside. Almost all cast clubs have some type of vibration dampening, such as polymer and/or aluminum badges epoxied to the back cavity, or goo inside hollow cavities (e.g., PXG). I respect the heck out of Takomo and what they’re doing. I wish I was good enough to use Takomo 301s. (BTW I game Srixon ZX5 MkII irons.)

  12. The 4 major brands have to pay their greedy little golfers to play their clubs…hence the price for theirs. Takomo is smashing the market.

  13. One thing I’m curious about is what the cost would be if they offered the same customization options as other companies. That’s one of the big differences between a DTC brand and a major OEM is that the OEMs have a massive list of shafts and grips you can pick from. DTC brands have minimal options to choose from. If they offered the same shafts, what would the cost increase be?

  14. Been playing 101s for a few months after retiring my V4s.Feels like hitting a rock with an axe.But can t argue with results. They just work.

  15. Sick and tired of the main brands especially those from the USA trying to monopolise the industry.

  16. Got the 201s as a total beginner. PLayed for 1½ year now. 54 to 26 hcp. Absolutely love them. Also have 3 wedges and the 3 wood.

  17. Why should I believe a 20 handicapper on club reviews? Pretty sure I could dig a 4th grader who could do as good of a job as Rick.

  18. 18 handicapper here. A few weeks ago I sold my Ping G430 ironset and bought the Takomo Combo set which is PW-8 in the bladed MB and the 7-4 in the cavity back CB.

Best golfing purchase of my life. Don’t listen to anyone who might tell you, you need to be a certain handicap to play these irons. They feel amazing when struck pure and when they are not, you get feedback to tell you so. So if you want to actually improve, avoid the “game improvement” clubs which don’t give you any feedback.

  19. Golf brands have always stole ideas from other brands but the main price difference has to comes with the millions of dollars spent on pro sponsorship that certainly trickels down to, and out of the end user's wallets. It would be interesting to see what pros would be using without any sponsorship money or perks from the big brands. Great review, thanks for the honesty.

  20. Why would anyone pay damn near double the price because a brand has been around longer and pays way more for marketing that they pass the cost of down to the consumer? Makes no sense. This is a honest brand that makes quality golf clubs, can’t say the other brands are the same.
